When it is cold outside you will feel better in your warm home.

It is not easy to warm-up your space and ensure enough air humidity.

Lack of humidity can cause many problems like fatigue, sleepiness, irritability, lack of concentration, nervousness and headache.

Dry air makes your skin dry and itchy.

Long exposure to dry air can cause infections of upper respiratory organs caused by dry mucous and burning eyes.

Dry air is not only the enemy of the body. It can also damage pictures on the wall, furniture, parquet and clothes.

Therefore it is important to regulate the moisture and humidity in your space.

8 Benefits of Humidification of Your Home During Winter

1. Prevents infections

Moisture makes tinny hairs in your nose active by filtering bacteria and viruses to protect you from cold and flu.

Extra humidity can prevent nose bleeding.

2. Easing the symptoms of flue and cold

Humidified air can help to ease the symptoms of cold and flu, including irritation of nose canals, throat and bronchi. It helps you with breathing and sleep.

3. Protects wooden furniture

Wooden furniture and parquet respond negatively too much or too little humidity in the air.

Dry air can cause the wood to brake.

Humidification of the rooms in which you keep your wooden furniture can help you preserve the integrity of wood.

4. Preserves your vocals

Your vocals should be smooth in order to vibrate and produce a good sound.

Dehydration, viruses and bad nutrition can cause voice loss.

Preserving the air humidity, especially during the night, can help you regain your voice.

5. Hydrates the skin

Warmth in your home during winter can cause skin dryness especially on hands because hands contain less sebaceous glands.

You lips can also be easily dried and air moisturizer can prevent that.

6. Preserves the warmth

Air moisturizer can make your home warmer.

The more humidity in the air, the more you will feel warm.

Air temperature to 21 C and  with 10% of humidity will make you feel as if the temperature in the room is 19,5 C, while 50% of air humidity will make you feel as if the temperature is 20,5 C.

7. Reduces snoring

Low levels of humidity in the nose can increase snoring and therefore hydration can be of major help.

8. Help for the plants

Many home plants come from regions with increased humidity.

Indoor air, especially during winter, does not provide enough humidity for the plants to easily develop.

This will become obvious if the leaves start to fade away or become yellow.

Adding an air moisturizer in the room will benefit many plants.

How to Humidify Your Rooms During Winter

Normal levels of humidity in closed space during winter should be between 30-50%.

You can increase humidity by using many object that you already possess.

You can put on your radiator a bowl filled with water in which you can add few drops of essential oils such as lavender, eucalyptus, tee tree or mint.

This will cause quick water evaporation and better circulation of humid air through the room.

Essential oils have anti-viral properties and beneficial effect on respiratory and remove fatigue.

Water in the air moisturizer should be replaced every day.

As a natural air moisturizer you can use wet laundry that you can dry beside the radiator.

Water contained in the laundry will slowly evaporate and keep the humidity in the room in balance.

Dry air can be moistened by boiling water.

Add water into a small bowl and add some orange or lemon bark.

Let it boil on low heat.

The steam that evaporates will increase the air humidity in the room and the smell of citrus will boost your mood.

Humidity can be increased if you open the doors of your bathroom after taking a shower or a bath.

Accumulated steam and humidity will spread into other rooms.

If you have been enjoying a hot bath, when you are done, release cold water in to the bath because it will cause evaporation.

Cooking on the oven during winter is more useful then cooking meals in the oven.

This kind of cooking releases the humidity in the air while baking in the oven makes the air dry.
