According to ayurveda, water has a cooling effect on the human organism and is connected to the Moon's energy.
Water gives life and is indispensable for physical, mental and spiritual health.
It balances pitta dosha, supports kapha, suppresses dryness with vata dosha and helps the vital energy of the body flow smoothly and without obstructions.
When correctly absorbed in the body, water has eight important healing properties:
- Refreshes and revitalizes
- Eliminates fatigue
- Increases endurance
- Helps the heart (soothes sadhaka pitta)
- Improves the appearance of the skin
- Promotes digestion
- Prevents constipation
- Cools the organism
Warm water is a healing nectar. That's why ayurveda advises you should always drink boiled and hot water.
Water eliminates toxins and lubricates tissues
People often have dry skin although they drink plenty of water.
Despite a high water intake, the organism does not get enough moisture on the inside.
It happens when a person has a weak digestive fire, and the toxins in the body block microchannels whose role it is to bring water to the cells.
In order to cleanse those channels and improve the moisture absorption, ayurvedic texts suggest boiled hot water with the addition of certain spices and healing herbs, depending on the body tipe and the dosha.
When the water has been boiled, its heat gains sharpness, and the spices contribute to it. The water with herbal spices will cleanse the channels more easily and penetrate deeper levels of the body.
With time, all the channels will be cleansed, and the water will finally flow through the body unobstructed.
It will nourish, lubricate and hydratize the tissues and remove the residual waste and toxins from the body.
Spiced water for every body type
According to the ayurvedic doctors, choose spiced water for your body type. Drink spiced water regularly so that your body could regain balance.
You will be surprised how one simple habit like drinking water can improve your health.

How to use ayurvedic water
Ayurveda recommends two liters of spiced water a day, but everybody should identify their own needs.
Drink spiced water in the morning on an empty stomach and drink it during the day every 15 minutes.
After 7 PM drink only tap water because spiced water is too vitalizing to drink before going to bed.
At the end of the day, if you haven't used up your spiced water, throw it away and make a fresh one in the morning.
You may also drink tap water during the day as may be necessary, specially if you have worked out and feel you need more liquids.
If you have made an ayurvedic dish which contains spices, also drink just tap water.
