Is it difficult for you to resist the urge of nibbling something during the day or while watching your favorite television series?
You don’t have to resist this urge if you replace unhealthy and nutrient-poor products with healthy snacks.
Besides, these healthy snacks will provide you with enough energy so that you will successfully meet all your needs for daily snacks.
1. Ghee Popcorn
Popcorns are the only snacks that contain 100% of raw whole grains.
Thus, only one popcorn portion can fulfill even 70% of daily human needs for whole grains.
Unlike popcorns prepared in the microwave with added margarine, the only popcorns that are considered healthy and in which you can carelessly enjoy are the ones fried in a pan with few drops of oil or ghee.
In Croatia ghee is known as maslo or clarified butter and it is considered as an extremely healthy ingredient. It was made by our ancestors in order to preserve the most precious butter ingredients from decay.
In its purified form, ghee represents the essence of milk without any added artificial flavor or aroma, sugar, salt, colors and preservatives.
Therefore, ghee is easily digestible and it can be used from early childhood to old age.
Ghee is rich in saturated (healthy) fatty acids that help the body to protect itself from free radicals and various diseases. Also, it is suitable for those who have problems with digesting milk and other dairy products, because it doesn’t contain lactose.
2. Dried Fruits
Excessive consumption of white sugar can be easily avoided by using dried fruits that are, thanks to their sweetness and flavor, a perfect snack.
Not only are they an excellent source of natural sugar, but dried fruits are rich in enzymes, vitamins and minerals.
Dried fruits contain more minerals, such as calcium and iron, then fresh fruits and that is why they are considered as an important part of children’s nutrition.
Dried fruits do not contain moisture while all nutritive and beneficial ingredients are preserved.
The taste is the same as in fresh fruits or even more intense because dried ingredients are actually concentrates of nutrients.
Dried fruits do not spoil if they are properly dried and stored.
They can be made from raisins, apricots, prunes, dates, black currants, etc.
Dried fruits are highly caloric and filled with energetic nutrients, thus it is good to have them for breakfast together with nuts.
It is good to know that it is best to eat dried fruits after they have been previously soaked in water.
3. Nuts
Instead of potato chips and other salty snacks it is better to consume nuts (walnuts, almonds, chestnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, cashews) that are rich in minerals and other valuable nutrients.
It is considered that 6-8 nuts a day can satisfy the human need for minerals. For example, walnuts contain magnesium, zinc, sulfur, phosphorus, iodine and unsaturated fatty acids.
Walnuts, as well as other nuts, contain omega-3 fatty acids that are mostly spent during the thinking process and therefore they need to be regenerated. That is why walnuts are called the genius snack.
Walnuts are an excellent source of vitamin E which is in charge of intellectual abilities.
They are rich with zinc which is an important mineral that improves cognitive skills.
Nuts are the perfect tool against obesity.
Daily consumption of nuts reduces bad mood and stimulates the cardiovascular system.
4. Kale Chips
Kale chips is a healthy alternative to potato chips.
It is rich in antioxidants, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and phytonutrients that protect from cancer.
Since it is made by the process of dehydration instead of frying all nutrients that it contains are preserved.
Kale contains vitamin A which regenerates the cells. It also contains the combination of vitamin C and cooper which helps with skin regeneration and keeps it smooth and firm.
It contains nutrients for the body detoxification, and is rich in calcium and magnesium, which are necessary for the bone health.
Only 100 grams of kale contain the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids and a high dosage of vitamin B6 which is responsible for the feeling of happiness and good mood.
5. Energy Bars
This energy bomb is made of whole grains, dried fruit and nuts, honey, agave syrup or a similar connective ingredients.
Concentrated carbohydrates will quickly restore your lost energy, and dried fruits will supplement the taste of healthy seeds.
It is important to use whole grains, because they provide the body with energy (due to the high content of complex carbohydrates), protect the joints and help with detoxification.
Nutritive value of whole grains is much higher than of white grains from which all the valuable ingredients have been removed.
Their skin contains all nutritive ingredients necessary for growth, development and maintenance of the body.
Energy bars can be made by cooling (in the refrigerator), or by baking (in the oven).
We recommend the first method because it preserves all their valuable ingredients.
