How many times have you stopped in front of someone's garden, just look over the fence, enjoyed the view and felt good?

What is that attracted your attention - colorful flowers, scents or something which is not that easy to explain, some harmony and naturalness?

If it was the impression of harmony and naturalness that got your attention, then you saw a garden that is governed by the laws of nature, i.e. by Feng Shui.

In these gardens, a law existing in nature is applied. When there is already such a harmony with the nature, you should use it.

After all, we ourselves are the fruits of the same nature.

Attract beneficial energy

The basic principles of Feng Shui decorating used in garden should be to create a link between our space and environment.

Our gardens should attract beneficial energy from the environment and nourish our inner space by doing so.

Likewise, the purpose of such a garden is to prevent unpleasant energy like sounds, traffic, aggressive buildings and other things which undermine our peace and health.

The garden is a living example of Feng Shui. In it, we see everyday play of sun and shadow, movement and transformation of energy in growing flowers, a variety of types of energy in flowers, plants and rocks.

How to set boundaries

The garden should be seen as a living being that needs protection from the weather, and that protection is provided by the fence.

The garden is an unity which needs boundaries, but they should be a connection with the environment, rather than a source of alienation.

This means that the fence should be adequately high, shaped and of an appropriate type. The best thing to use is a hedge, but it can be good to combine solid walls and living hedges.

When choosing a fence you should respect the principle of "Five Protectors" (Five celestial animals), using the main entrance as the facing part of your garden.

Suitable shapes of garden

The best gardens are of symmetrical shapes such as squares and rectangles. Bad shapes are distinctly triangular, irregular shapes like letters L or T.

The problem is that the energy moves difficulty in these shapes. There are always areas in which energy can not reach - the so-called blind spots.

Then energy balance is disrupted and the garden as a whole suffers.

The solution is to set up the blind spots with activators such as plants, lighting, sound, water, or to separate that areas with a small fence or a wall – improvised boundaries.

Preferred fence height

At the front of the garden (facing) should be the lowest fence, so that you can still take a peek over it. Do not forget that every glance at your garden by people passing by represents a positive energy.

The fence should allow the energy to enter in your garden and to stay in it as long as possible before it dissipates into the environment.

Fences should not be strictly linear, because that way they accelerate or intersect the flow of energy. If it is a living fence, it is advisable to cut it into different heights to slow down the flow of energy.

Paths in the garden should be slightly swerving, so that the energy is slowed down as a stream. Then the energy is most useful to both the garden and a walker enjoys the beauty and special details longer.

Hospitality at the door

Open up the front gate. Do not put menacing spikes on it, give it a welcoming feel.

Do not plant tall trees near the entrance, since that prevents the flow of energy. It is best to use ornamental undergrowth that catches the eye.

If the pathway to the front door is strictly straight, mitigate it by using plants to create a swirling pattern and slow down the energy.

Center represents freedom

Leave the center of the garden free to improve the flow and distribution of energy throughout the garden.

The center is an ideal place to set activators such as fountains, lighting or moving decorations. All this moves the energy to all parts of the garden.

Rounded shapes (beams, water elements, rocks) will achieve ease the flow of energy.

How to plant the plants

Plant your plants at intervals in order to enable them to breathe. Let the wind blow through them and distribute their energy. This will feed them and defend them against disease.

When selecting plants, use the principle of plant diversity, but mostly use plants from your own region.

Such a garden can easily blend with the environment, and you will achieve a true copy of the most beautiful qualities of nature.

Do not forget the birds

If your garden still has a birdhouse that attracts them (singing of birds is bliss for the ears), children's playground, gazebo and fountain for adults ... then you have your own little paradise.

Such a garden not only looks nice, but there is also a particularly bright atmosphere that relaxes, restores and inspires.

Add a touch of originality

These are just some basic principles rather than strict rules. We do not need copies of Chinese, English and zen gardens. On the contrary, your garden should tell your story.

Use only those details from foreign gardens that naturally fit into your garden.

It is better to incorporate in the garden forms from the environment that we like. For example, a lovely stone will always find their place.

The real secret of Feng Shui garden lies in creating a space that will attract attention with its details and to give the sense of combined harmony of fullness and emptiness to a garden as a whole.

"Good Feng Shui garden can not be seen – it is felt"
