Most of people are familiar with the symbol of Yin and Yang, so it is no coincidence it is so popular and widespread throughout the world.
What is the secret of its appeal?
Most people do not know the versatility and genius of this symbol, how many laws can be read from it!
The symbol is made of a circle in which Yin (dark part) and Yang (bright area) are stationed.
The circle itself symbolizes unity, a source of endless possibilities and pure knowledge.
A circle symbolizes continuity and cyclicity of any change.
Symbols of Yin and Yang, which resemble tadpoles, are touching at one curve and seem to be constantly chasing each other.
This can be seen as our life, which is one magical dance that never goes according to strict rules, but flows like a stream.
It is important to point out the correct position of Yang (active) on the upper side and Yin (quiet) on the lower side and their movement from left to right, in the direction in which the sun moves in the sky.
When the sun is at the highest point, then Yang is in its upper-most position, in its maximum. At the same moment, Yin is at its minimum.
Looking from a lower point, where Yin in its full force, we can see how it becomes smaller and simultaneously Yang is increasing, since it has reached its upper-most position.
And then another shift - Yin increases and Yang declines. Fantastic dance of day and night, joy and sorrow, peace and fun, cold and warm etc.
Contrasting colors themselves - white and black - emphasize their opposite natures, and a circle that holds them represents their conditionality. One makes no sense without the other.
This is exactly the original law of the unity of opposites, as one of the basic interpretation of the functioning of our world.
Points in the yin and yang are the germs of develop of their opposite natures. Each process turns into its opposite after it reaches its peak. At the same time, this tells us that nothing can ever be absolute.
Yin and Yang are trying to say that there is a star in every darkness, and a trace of happiness in every sorrow.
The ratio of areas of the Yin and Yang symbolizes the law of balance, it is also the aspiration of every change, and at the same time the wheel that moves the entire universe.
The special value of this symbol is that we can see the relationship of Yin and Yang in every phase of change. If you draw a radius on it, you will see the relationship of the length of black and white, i.e. the relationship of Yin and Yang.
All these laws can be seen crystal clear on the shady and sunny sides of the hill, just as our ancestors observed it.
Just gaze upon play of the sun and shadow from morning to evening, following the movement of the sun in the sky from sunrise, through the highest point, until it has set.
We can easily identify all the aforementioned principles in this dance of Yin and Yang.
Inevitable exchange of Yin and Yang is best seen today in the shift of economic and spiritual processes that take place in the Eastern and Western world. In the East, materialistic segment is increasing, while spiritual segment is in decline and in the West, the process is reversed.
Western man, who tends to make rational judgments, cannot easily understand this cosmic harmony when seen from the perspective of his/her everyday life.
But when the mind is open to accept new principles, our view is changed, we begin to look at our world differently and we start making clearer conclusions about the world around us.
Knowing that nothing is completely black or completely white, that everything functions in stages and repeated cycles, helps us to predict future changes and makes it easier to make decisions.
"He who knows the changes of nature, also knows the actions of the gods.”
