Today, when many microorganisms became resistant to synthetic drugs because of their extensive use, it is important to find wiser solutions from nature.
The goal of every doctor is Primum non nocere, i.e. the most important is not to harm the patient.
We all know that synthetic antibiotics cause side effects right after they are used or after some time has passed, but nature’s gifts do not have unwanted consequences.
Researches confirm that there are many products in the nature that have antibiotic effects.
Propolis is one of such products.
It is a perfect food item that heals and feeds human body.
Propolis is a common name for a resinous mixture that honey bees collect from tree buds, sap flows, or other botanical sources.
Bees mix it with the secretion of their jaw glands; they modify it enzymatically so that the most important compounds, flavonoids, become active compounds.
Propolis has specific appearance, specific bitter taste and characteristic and aromatic scent.
Content and color of propolis depend on herbs that bees collect materials from and on the season.
Propolis has traditionally been used for over 2 000 years.
Historic records indicate that propolis was an important and valued product in medicine of Egyptians, Babylonians, Arabs, Greeks, Romans and many other ancient people.
Healing effects of propolis
Propolis contains 50% resin, 30% wax, 10% essential oils, 5% flower pollen, numerous vitamins and minerals, organic acids, polyphenols, flavonoids.
Flavonoids are mostly responsible for the healing effects of propolis.
Flavonoids are pigments found in fruits, vegetables, flowers and tree barks. They have antioxidative effects and their role is to protect plants against pathogenic environment.
Propolis contains many flavonoids: galangin, quercetin, chrysin, kaempferol, apigenin, and pinocembrin and pinobanksin.
Propolis is one of those wise natural remedies that kill everything that harms healthy organism while protecting healthy tissue and healing damaged one.
Numerous researches confirmed that propolis is natural anesthetic, antioxidant, antiseptic, antibiotic, that it is effective against most viruses, including the influenza virus. It is great for fighting fungi and parasites.
Uniqueness of propolis is that bacteria do not develop immunity to it and there are no negative side effects of propolis, which is the problem with synthetic antibiotics.
Before you go to sleep, it is enough to smear propolis on chest area in order to stop coughing and ensure deep sleep.

It is known that propolis stimulates the creation of new cells and regeneration of damaged tissue.
Propolis helps in cases of severe diarrhea, when other drugs are powerless.
As a great active biostimulator, propolis contributes to enhancement of overall health of our organism, metabolism and immunity normalization.
It is used for treating ear and oral cavity diseases. It achieves great results in throat inflammation treatment and prevention.
It helps with toothache, paradentosis, bad breath, hemorrhoids, urinary tract inflammations and gastritis.
As a powerful antioxidant, it is effective against free radicals that are nowadays considered to be the cause of many diseases, even the most severe ones such as atherosclerosis, cataract, cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
Recent researches indicate that propolis strengthens the immunity system and has anti-carcinogenic effects.
How to use propolis
Propolis can be used in its natural, raw form. You can also use it for making water extract, alcoholised tincture (propolis drops), ointment or crème.
Propolis water extract
Propolis water extract can be made using the following procedure. Freeze raw propolis and then grind it into a fine powder.
Mix a teaspoon of that powder in 250 ml of pure water in the evening.
Next morning, drink the mixture in small sips. Eat propolis that remained at the bottom of the glass before breakfast.
Propolis crème
Put 80-90 grams of Vaseline in an enameled or ceramic container. Heat the container in a bath with water simmering.
Add 10-20 grams of minced propolis. Mix the fluid until propolis is melted. Impurities from propolis will come to the surface so collect them with a wooden spoon and dispose them.
At the end, add a bit of alcohol propolis tincture in order to homogenize propolis and Vaseline. After that, put the container into cold water. Keep mixing until the ointment is cooled.
Store propolis ointment into hermetically closed glass jar and store it on a cold and dark place.
Raw propolis
Use raw propolis like this: 3-5 grams a day, between meals. Before you swallow propolis, chew it and mix it in your mouth for 15 minutes.
