Or are you among those few that have no experience with online shopping?
Whether you are buying books on Amazon, clothes and accessories on eBay or music on iTunes, online shopping portals have taken a significant part of our lives.
Most people will not complain about it, after all, we all sometimes benefit from time saved by shopping from our homes.
One of the services that offer online shopping is Google’s service called “Google Shopping”.
That service is rarely used in Croatia, since it mostly compares prices of big foreign retailers, but it is very useful for people living in the USA.
E-experts say that Google Shopping is an excellent help for shoppers since it allows them all the information on various products and compares their prices in different stores.
Unpleasant surprise
If you live in the USA and you try to use Google Shopping services to shop for vitamins, diet supplements, personal hygiene products and healthy and dietary food, your search will be unsuccessful.
For unknown reasons, Google has blocked the access to all vitamins and natural products to US customers.
At the end of June this year, Google Shopping portal users have noticed that when they searched for the usual healthy products and supplements such as “vitamin C”, “zinc” or “coconut oil”, there were no results.
But, during their search they have received additional information on the product, a rich selection of distributers who offer such products and information regarding product prices.
When a group of interested shoppers asked Google team about the problem, they were not given a clear answer why those products are no longer displayed in the shopping section.
“Sensitive products”
There are some unofficial stories that Google placed vitamins, diet supplements and similar food items into a category of “sensitive” products, which means that Google Shopping blocked them.
Why? No one knows exactly!
Distributors that were selling their products via Google Shopping discovered a drop in sales after that change.
Namely, Google holds a significant monopoly on product searches.
You probably think that Google has a good reason for blocking these products, such as harmful side-effects of these products, their bad influence on human health or any other valid reason.
But, some of the blocked products are simple nutrients like vitamin C or B12 or coconut water – very tasty drink with many positive properties.
Among blocked products we find spirulina, algae rich in proteins and glucosamine, a remedy that alleviates joint pains.
This is just a small sample of products that are no longer accessible via the Google Shopping service in USA.
It is proven that all those products have beneficial effects on human health. And everyone, including Google, should support such products.
Censorship in USA only?
What is even more puzzling is the fact that such products can be easily accessed by Google Shopping users in other countries.
Individuals in France, Australia, Great Britain and elsewhere claim that so far they had no problems with searching for vitamins and diet supplements using the Google Shopping service.
We all know that most of the people believe that Americans do not even buy such products and that they only enjoy fast food, but that is not the reason for discrimination.
A funny fact is that if you search for snacks like Twinky, Pringles and other unhealthy foods, Google Shopping will give you several hundred search results.
What exactly is going on and why does Google refuse to give a clear answer to these questions is still a great mystery.
It is not clear whether we are fronted with an accidental or deliberate problem in Google's system or deliberate censorship with a goal of depriving people the access to natural and healthy products and to help stores that sell other types of food.
Whatever the correct answer may be, we will have to wait for Google to decide to answer questions of the worried users.
