Eliminate Work Overload and Stress with Yoga

Returning to the office routine every day, handling tasks that are becoming more and more stressful, multitasking and then finding time for your family and friends can be made easier by small tricks found in ancient yoga.

Human body is not made for sitting at the office desk the whole day which is something that became a typical working condition for a modern business man or woman.

This is why many people who are accustomed to work in front of the computer the whole day are experiencing manifestation of many side effect that are affecting their body.

To practice yoga, you don’t have to stand on your head or put your leg behind your back.

All you need is a little bit of good will and persistence for the results that will be visible immediately.

Yoga will help you balance your body and spirit. It will make you relax, surcharge you with energy and allow you to enjoy your everyday life.

The best thing is – you can practice yoga at work.


Common Problems – Yoga as a Solution


1. Pain in the back, neck, shoulders and hands

It occurs mostly because of unhealthy sitting posture, using keyboard or a mouse.

It has been noticed that working long hours in front of the computer very often causes an unpleasant and painful syndrome of carpal tunnel that can lead to weakening of the fist muscles.

Physical exercises – asanas that are especially intended to affect certain parts of body can ease these problems.

So called sukshma asanas that include stretching, warming and strengthening fist tendon prevent and ease carpal tunnel syndrome.


2. Poor Circulation

Poor circulation is caused by a static way of life. Except for causing severe medical problems it also causes an aesthetic problem - cellulite.

Physical exercises and certain breathing exercises, such as kapahlabati can help to solve this problem.


3. Digestion Disorders

Chronic and sometimes very serious digestion problems can be caused by a long exposure to stress, unhealthy food (fast food) and café with no physical exercise.

Proper and regular performance of breathing exercises such as kapahlabati, along with physical exercises can strengthen and regulate digestion and affect the condition of the whole body.


4. Cardiovascular problems

Cardiovascular problems, especially high blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol in blood, are caused by stress, unhealthy diet accompanied with no exercising.

Evidence show that meditation decreases high blood pressure while physical exercise stimulates circulation and it is beneficial for the heart.

Regular performance of breathing exercises purifies the blood vessels and also decreases the levels of cholesterol in the blood.


5. Eye Problems

Looking at the screen of your computer every day can cause problems with focusing, blurred vision, tired and burning eyes, sensitivity to light etc.

Our eyes are adjusted to simultaneously look at close and distant objects.

Looking at the computer screen which is distant for app 60 cm is not natural. Eye blinking is drastically decreased and it burdens the eyes.

Yoga for the eyes stimulates circulation, relaxes and straightens eye muscles.


6. Increase of toxins in the body

Level of toxins in the body are increased by eating unhealthy meals and by potentially harmful air substances that are found at work – substances that are coming from printers, air conditioners and external traffic surrounding.

Breathing exercises affect the elimination of harmful substances from your body especially if done in nature.

Ancient Ayurvedic practice of oil pulling is also very effective in eliminating toxins from your body.

To increase the quality of air at work, offices should be equipped with plants, water fountains and aroma lamps.


Reduce stress with the help of the following exercises


Breathing exercises

Take a 10 minutes break from work, open the windows for the fresh air and oxygen to come in, and preform breathing exercises.

Take a deep breath through your nose, keeping your eyes closed. By inhaling fill your stomach with oxygen and then your chest.

Abdominal breathing increases concentration and memory, relaxes the mind and removes negativity.


Circling your head

Close your eyes and easily circle your head clockwise in one direction and then in the other (repeat 10 times in each direction).

Inhale at the beginning of the circle and exhale and the middle.

Neck consists of scalene muscles which are sensitive to our emotional conditions and they become visibly tensed if we ourselves are feeling tense.

This exercise stimulates the nerves, circulation in your head and shoulders and removes neck pain.


Stretching the fingers

Stretch your arms to the front and close your fists.

Inhale and while exhaling stretch the fingers of your hand.

Repeat the exercise 40 times.

This exercise is very simple. It stimulates circulation and removes pain in the hands that occurs when using a mouse.

It removes negative energy from your hands.


Circling the shoulders

Most people are suffering from shoulder pain because stress is mostly accumulated in the shoulders.

Stretch your arms to the front and put them on your shoulders by creating a triangle.

Circle with your arms (push the arms to the front and to the back as much as you can while circling), inhale at the beginning and exhale in the middle of the circle.

Repeat 10 times in one direction and then in the other.


Exercise for the eyes

Take a break from watching the computer screen and do the following exercises, repeating every exercise 10 times.

The exercise consists of moving your eyes up, down, left, then right and diagonal.

The exercise ends by circling your eyes. In the end rub your palms and cover your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes for your eyes to be energized.


By regularly practicing these exercises you will make your mind calm and stable. Also you will improve your concentration and creativity.

You will conduct your everyday tasks more quickly and effectively. That will also give you more free time to focus on other activities.
