Laughter yoga was created in 1995 in India. Its founder was dr. Madan Kataria.

Its popularity has been increasing and now it is taught in thousands of laughter clubs in more than 100 countries.

It is an infections training regime which will help you stop taking things too seriously and focus on the funny side of life.

Why to laugh for no reason?

The unique concept of unconditional laughter is based on a scientific fact that our body does not recognize the difference between real and faked, simulated laughter.

In both cases, the body creates the same positive changes.

Through laughter we introduce large quantities of oxygen, which is our lifeline.

Besides, when we laugh our body secretes the natural painkiller endorphin, while preventing the secretion of cortisol, a stress hormone which is a leading cause of numerous illnesses.

Laughter as a healing force

Is laughter really a healing force? To answer this question one needs to understand the concept of disease and how it is defined.

The scientific approach to every illness contains two components.

Organic cause: due to the pathological damage in the organism, manifesting through various signs and symptoms.

Psychological reaction to an illness: this is the psychological part, which makes people worried and upset. People think what will happen to them due to their health condition. There is a constant flow of negative thoughts, which mostly affect those who suffer from long term, chronic illnesses.

Laughter yoga excersises help with both components.

How?

  • First, they make the mind positive and bring change. Most illnesses have over 50% of psychological causes.
  • Laughter brings instant change. After the very first exercise you will feel an improved mood.
  • By exercising regularly the attitude changes from negative to positive. This soon leads to an improved health.
  • Laughter yoga fills the body with positive chemicals, a kind of happy cocktail.
It creates new optimism and brings hope so you would recover from an illness more easily and more quickly.
Your thoughts depend on the chemicals circulating in the blood and which are formed depending on your mindset.
If someone is gripped by fear, more negative chemicals are released into the bloodstream, which leads to negative thoughts and feelings.
  • Laughter yoga also enhances the oxygen supply to your cells, which means it heals the body on the cellular level. Thus, it strengthens your immunological system, an important factor for the recovery from any illness.

Essentially, laughter yoga not only prevents illness, but it also has a therapeutic value.

In this context, it helps you recover from various illnesses more quickly, by a rebalancing of your physical, mental and emotional health.

How to practice laughter yoga?

Anyone can practice laughter yoga, regardless of sex, age and physical capabilities.

Laughter yoga may be practiced anytime and anyplace.

There are no moves that cause pain, no need for previous experience, physical fitness or special equipment.

You need to understand that laughter yoga is a concept of laughter for no reason, whereby laughter is stimulated by childish playfulness.

Secondly, accept you don't need a reason to laugh. Decide to laugh for the sake of your health.

Now we shall explain to you some of the laughter yoga exercises.

Coach and leaders may develop their own variants, but these foundations are standard.

By knowing them, you will be able to perform laughter yoga exercises at home.

Tap your fingers in front of your heart chakra. Focus on your belly and laugh "ho ho". Focus on your chest and laugh "ha ha". Change the focus all the time, between the belly and the chest, up and down, and laugh "ho ho, ha ha, ho ho".

Place your hands on your head. Laugh in your mind "he he he" in order to cleanse your head from tension. Then place your hands on your chest and laugh "ha ha ha".

Focus on your feet and tap with them on the floor while you laugh "hu hu hu".

Raise your arms towards the sky, focus on your chest and laugh "ha ha ha" for a minute.

At the end of your laughter yoga session, sing the "om" mantra for a minute. Sing it in your own tune.

Notice where in your organism the "O" resounds best.  Sing until you have calmed down.

Look at yourself in the mirror and wish yourself a great day, with a smile. Continue through your everyday life with plenty of optimism.
