Do you want a completely natural and permanent hair color?

It may sound incredible, but it is possible.

Completely natural hair dyes made of plants can provide red, brown, black or even blue shades.

Why use natural colors

Natural colors are made of herbal ingredients exclusively and do not harm your health or the environment.

They do not damage, but improve your hair, giving it strength, volume and shine.

In addition to eliminating dandruff, they reduce electric charge, thus solving the problem of oily hair and other scalp problems.

In contrast, commercial colors contain a number of chemicals that can cause severe allergic reactions and pollute the environment.

In addition, they impair the health of your hair, which is especially true for brighter colors.

Dyeing hair with natural colors is somewhat more complicated, but the positive sides of those colors cannot be matched by commercial products.

Trick number one: classic henna

Classic henna or henna (Latin name Lawsonia inermis) is a plant that grows in Africa and Asia.

In Egypt it was used as early as 5.000 years ago for hair care and coloring grays.

It gives reddish color, completely covers gray hair and adds volume and shine to your hair.

The power of henna is in healing of weak hair and restoring alkaline balance to the scalp.

Henna does not hurt the hair, instead it nourishes and protects its structure.

It is an excellent conditioner, because it forms a protective layer on the hair. This prevents further damage and also moisturizes, tones and strengthens your hair.

It also has strong antifungal activity, removes and prevents dandruff and is used in the treatment of a variety of fungal diseases.

By itself henna produces red color and mixed with indigo powder it can be turned into dark-brown and black.

If you mix it with colorless henna (Latin name Cassia obovata), you can get a light-brown or blonde hair.

Except for hair coloring, henna is also used for body art.

Trick number two: indigo powder

Indigo powder for hair coloring has been used for over 4.000 years. During the 19th and early 20th century it was the most popular hair color in Europe and the U.S., and was known as "black henna".

It gives a blue (indigo) color. By mixing indigo blue and red henna powder you can get dark brown and black hair.

The combination of henna and indigo powder makes hair manageable. It tames curls and smoothens the ends of hairs and completely eliminates electricity.

Mix indigo powder with henna to achieve brown and dark shades, instead of copper shades that henna itself gives.

Using this powder you can achieve a beautiful black hair, even if you are blonde or gray.

Unlike synthetic dyes, indigo does not cause irritation and does not damage the hair. In contrast, it protects and nourishes the hair and gives it shine.

Trick number three: colorless henna

Colorless henna or senna (Latin name Cassia obovata) is a real natural booster and hair conditioner.

It is a true magic for dull, untidy hair and the scalp and skin. Results are visible after the first application, because the hair becomes supple, stronger and fuller.

It is also recommended for treating troubled, chronically oily hair or irritated scalp that itches.

It is used for hair regeneration, but when mixed with a classic henna it gives a light-brown or blue, and pink-blond shades (strawberry blond or marigold blond).

Mixing colorless henna with indigo powder results in the creation of brown and black shades.

When applied on gray or blond hair, it produces golden tones.

It is not recommended to apply colorless henna on freshly colored hair. You have to wait two to three weeks before applying it.

Colorless henna is an excellent treatment for dry skin and weak nails. Simply mix it with water until you get a paste and then apply that paste to critical sites.

Other plants for hair coloring

Sage for darker shades

Healing sage is ideal for those who want to make their hair even darker.

Boil a handful of sage tea for half an hour in a liter of boiling water, or longer if you want a darker shade.

Rinse freshly washed hair with boiled tea for approximately fifteen times. It is recommended that you do this leaned over the washbowl. Leave the tea in your hair for ten minutes and then rinse.

Use this treatment once a week until you have reached the desired shade of color. Once you achieve the desired shade, the color can be maintained by repeating the treatment once a month.

Rhubarb root for blondes

Rhubarb root is good for highlighting blond hair, and if you have light brown hair, you can achieve the color of honey.

Pour four tablespoons of rhubarb root powder with three cups of water and boil for twenty minutes.

Rinse washed hair with this mixture for fifteen times and then rinse your hair with water.

If possible, dry your hair in the sun to increase the impact of the dye.

Lighter hair with the help of honey

Honey is an excellent nourishing mask for all hair types, but one of its features is the ability to lighten the hair.

It contains hydrogen peroxide, and everyone knows the effect of hydrogen on the hair. The efficacy of honey depends on the thickness and color of the hair.

Mix honey and distilled water in a 4:1 ratio. Keep the mixture for one hour on your head. After that, wash your hair as usual.

This method gently lightens the hair, so if you wish a stronger effect you need to repeat the treatment several times. Adding lemon or cinnamon enhances the effect.

Be careful if you use honey in hair care, and you do not wish to change the shade of your hair.

Amla for red or brown tones

Indian gooseberry or amla is the best "cure" for gray hair and it is taken either orally or topically.

Adding amla to kana achieves slightly brown tones of red and if you add it to indigo, you will achieve colder tones of brown.

Amla itself is a great treatment for refreshing your hair and adding volume to curly hair.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds are also effective against gray hair.

Soak a handful of seeds overnight. The next day strain them and mix with two tablespoons of whey.

Keep this mixture on your hair for an hour and then rinse your hair with water.

Fenugreek eliminates the problem of dandruff and makes your hair smooth and shiny.

Hibiscus for reddish tones

Hibiscus is used for highlighting and updating reddish tones.

Mash three to four hibiscus flowers. Boil 200 ml of olive oil mixed with crushed flowers. Strain the mixture when it cools.

Put the oil on your hair before going to sleep and wash it out in the morning. Repeat the process two or three times a week.

Another method is to cook a handful of hibiscus tea blend in two cups of water for about ten minutes.

Pour the strained tea over your hair approximately fifteen times. Keep this liquid on your head for an hour and then rinse it with water.

Arabica coffee for highlighting dark hair

It is used to highlight dark hair and cover gray hairs.

Boil three liters of strong coffee and pour it into a bowl. Rinse your hair with the coffee fifteen times.

Strain your hair, wait for fifteen minutes, then wash it. This treatment is ideal for covering gray hairs and giving shine to the hair.

Beetroot for red to purple hair

This plant will give you red-purple hair color.

Squeeze the juice from a beet and rub it into your hair. Prior to that, apply some cream to the skin around the scalp to help avoid stains.

Cover your hair with a shower cap, wrap it in a towel, heat it with a hair drier and let the juice sit on your head for about an hour. Then wash your hair.

Chamomile for lightening

Chamomile is one of the most well-known natural agents for hair lightening.

Put five teaspoons of chamomile blend into 2 dl of water and make a tea. Rub hot tea into your hair, wrap your hair with a plastic bag, then put a towel on top of it. Let the tea sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Finally, rinse your hair with water.

To check how any of these colors will look on your hair, collect a couple of hairs from your brush and dye them using one of the described natural dyes.
