Ginger (lat. Zingiber officinale) is a flowering plant known for its rhizome, ginger root.

It has been used for thousand years as a medicine, spice, food and as a beauty product.

Ginger originated from China, but it also grows in other parts of the world such as Asia, India, Africa and Caribbean Islands. 

Ginger is a very important plant used in Ayurvedic medicine and it is very popular in culinary around the world because of its bitter taste.

It is rich in essential oils, vitamin B, potassium, manganese, copper and magnesium.
 

Natural Cure for Digestion
 

Ginger is rich in gingerol – a natural constituent that improves and stimulates digestion, eases gassiness, digestion problems and prevents stomach cramps. 

Due to stimulating mucus release, ginger prevents ulcer – a damage of gastric mucosa.

Zingerone, a compound that makes ginger bitter is beneficial for treating diarrhea caused the bacteria E. coli, especially in children.

 

Reduces Inflammations and Eases Allergy Symptoms
 

Ingredients contained in ginger prevent the process of biosynthesis of prostaglandin, which causes inflammation.

Ginger has an analgetic, calming and antibacterial effect. Because of its antihistamine effect it is used in treating allergies. 

It is also used in treating rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other problems of musculoskeletal system and connecting tissue.

Results of treating arthritis with ginger excel the results of treating it with conventional drugs.


Ginger Compresses – Powerful Healing Tool
 

Ginger compresses are used for treating acute and chronic pain caused by rheumatism, arthritis, back pain, neck pain, stomach cramps, kidney and liver inflammations, bronchitis and asthma.

You can cover your whole body with ginger compresses or you can make a ginger bath for relaxation and elimination of body toxins.

Ginger therapy increases fat, protein and minerals decomposition.

It helps with rheumatism, arthritis, gout, stimulates blood flow and eliminates toxins.

It has been confirmed that ginger decreases the level of cholesterol and prevents blood clots.

It does not cause side effects such as intoxication feeling which usually occurs after taking medications for nausea.

Researches show that it can prevent nausea caused by driving or pregnancy same as nausea caused by chemo therapy.

Women who took 250 mg of ginger powered in capsules daily alleviated their morning sickness in early pregnancy.

You can also try tasty ginger cookies against nausea.
 

Ingredients:

  • 75 g of butter
  • 120 g of brown sugar
  • 10g of graham flour
  • 125 g of buckwheat flour
  • 25 g of wheat germ
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of milled dry ginger
  • 1 and a half tablespoons of freshly rinsed ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of milled anise
  • 1 teaspoon of milled clove
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Little bit of milk
     

Prepare pastry and then make small balls, like round gingerbreads. Bake on 180 °C for 20-25 minutes and enjoy your healthy sweets.


How to Choose Ginger
 

Ginger root is available as raw, as powder, candied or pickled.

In specialized stores you can buy it as a syrup or tincture.

Whenever it is possible, use fresh, not dry ginger, because it contains more gingerol.

When choosing a ginger root make sure the root is firm and smooth, and that it is not rotten with mold.


Enjoy Fresh Ginger Tea
 

Ginger can be cut in to pieces and those pieces can be eaten if you like its bitter taste.

If you like beverages, make yourself a ginger tea.

Put 2 to 3 pieces of ginger root in boiling water and leave it for 10 minutes.

When cooled, add honey, lemon or orange slices.
