Arthritis is an inflammatory disease that mostly affects joints.
There are over 100 types of arthritis affecting various parts of the body.
Apart from joints, some types of arthritis are linked to diseases of other tissues and organs in the body.
The most common types are osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatic arthritis.
This vicious disease does not affect elderly people only. People of all ages, including children and young adults, can develop arthritis.
It is a very complex disease, so finding a proper cure can be a long process.
But, in order to cure it, you do not have to use medicinal drugs that can have serious side-effects.
The good news is that with proper diet, exercise, selected herbal medicines and natural diet supplements you can prevent or completely cure arthritis.
Natural remedies for arthritis
Indian frankincense tree
Boswellic acids are important ingredients of frankincense. They have strong anti-inflammatory properties and are effective for alleviating the pain caused by arthritis, and, unlike conventional medications, they do not have any negative side effects.
Frankincense enhances blood flow trhough vessels damaged by inflammation, which additionally benefits joints threatened by arthritis.
Its powerful anti-inflammatory properties help cure Crohn’s disease and cysts.
Turmeric
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is often used in natural remedies for arthritis treatment. Its efficiency has been proved in many studies.
Curcumin – the main ingredient found in turmeric – has significantly decreased morning stiffness and joint swelling of patients suffering from arthritis.
1.200 mg of curcumin has the same effect on arthritis as 300 mg of anti-inflammatory medicine phenylbutazone.
Glucosamine
It regenerates cartilage and gives elasticity to ligaments and tenders. It alleviates pains associated with arthritis if taken for prolonged periods.
Due to its small molecules it easily reaches joint cartilage cells and synovial sheaths.
When we reach middle-age our body stops producing glucosamine in adequate quantities, which leads to joint swellings and stiffness. The negative sides of glucosamine are its price, its inappropriateness for vegetarians and diabetes patients and possible side effects such as allergic occurrences.
Chondroitin sulfate
It blocks enzymes that decompose cartilage. As glucosamine, this substance creates a frame for collagen synthesis by binding enough water in order to create viscous, elastic layer.
By doing so, it lubricates and protects cartilage and strengthens its flexibility and pressure resistance.
Besides that, chondroitin blocks certain enzymes and prevents joint cartilage attrition. But it can also cause the same side effects as glucosamine.
Hyaluronic acid (HA)
This acid is the most important part of connecting tissue since it lubricates the joint surfaces in motion and amortizes joint movements.
Hyaluronic acid production in our body reduces during our life, so most 50-year old people have 50% less hyaluronic acid in knee joints than they had in younger days.
That reduction causes the weakening of viscous-elastic properties of joint fluid.
You can take hyaluronic acid orally or in a form of injections administered by a medical practitioner.
Zinc
It reduces the risk of rheumatic arthritis. Lack of zinc in the diet is a factor that increases the risk of connecting tissue inflammation, rheum and cellulite occurrence.
Zinc helps to diabetes patients also due to its role in insulin creation and neutralizes the excess amounts of copper, which is one of the causes of arthritis.
Food containing zinc includes pulse, integral cereals, pumpkin and its seeds, soy and pea.
Manganese
Manganese is required for synthesis of basic cartilage components.
Manganese deficiency can lead to knee pains, chronic exhaustion and balance problems. It is found in pineapple, oatmeal, nuts, pulse, spinach and tea.
Osteole
Osteole is a new patented substance that is clinically proven to reduce inflammations and protects cartilage from degenerative diseases.
Furthermore, during scientific studies it was also confirmed that osteole has protective and regenerative effects on cartilage cells.
It is especially efficient in synergy with other substances used for arthritis treatment. Its benefits include low price and the fact that vegetarians can use it.
Methyl sulfonil-methane (MSM)
MSM gives firmness and stability to connecting tissue by supplying sulfur to our body – cartilage health depends on sulfur.
Without this compound, amino-acid embedding into protein molecules of connective tissue is unstable. Connecting tissues created without the aforementioned embedding would not have appropriate structure and firmness and would be instable.
Our body uses MSM every day. We can find it in garlic, onion, kale, sprouts and asparagus. It can also be taken in a form of dietary supplements.
Ginger
It has been used for thousands of years in ayurvedic medicine for curing various rheumatic illnesses and for muscle and skeletal diseases.
Ginger is far more valuable than conventional corticosteroid anti-inflammatory medicines that can have serious side effects.
Ginger prevents the creation of inflammatory compounds prostaglandin and leukotriene, decomposes inflammatory liquid and acids in joints without any side effects.
Cetyl-myristoleate (CM)
Protects cartilage tissue from attrition caused by joint movement and pressure, it participates in the regeneration processes and induces immunological reaction to pain and swelling.
In the long term, CM enhances overall state of the joints via fast and safe effects on various forms of joint inflammations.
After taking therapeutic doses, it is enough to take small doses afterwards in combination with an appropriate diet for health and joint maintenance.
CM is found in palm and coconut oils and the richest known source of it is African Kombo nuts.
Narrow-leaved Meadowsweet
Its effect alleviates the pain and inflammation like aspirin and analgesics.
It is especially recommended as diuretic for excretion of liquid accumulated in the joints due to inflammation.
It enhances the elimination of liquids and toxic compounds caused by obesity and cellulite. By using narrow-leaved meadowsweet you increase your chances of full recovery or disease mitigation.
Black-currants leaves
This is one of the best natural antirheumatics. In therapy we use S.I.P.F. – an extract for oral use made from black-currants leaves, and a gel that is applied to sore joints.
Both products are very efficient for mitigation and alleviation of problems associated with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases.
Nettle leaves
It has antirheumatic and diuretic effect and stimulates bile excretion. It is officially approved for rheumatic arthritis and arthrosis treatments, as an independent remedy or as a therapy supplement.
Nettle leaves tincture and infusions are considered the best remedies for increased uric acid excretion, so they are an ideal remedy for gout treatment.
It is used during a period of several months, non-stop for up to six months. Always use fresh ingredients.
Devil’s claw
This plant, also called grapple plant and wood spider, has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, sedative and diuretic properties.
It is effective for treating chronic rheumatism, arthritis, gout, sore back, neuralgia and lumbago, and is especially effective for treating pain in hip, knee and lower back.
In some European countries it is used in an injection form instead of corticosteroids. We recommend standardized devil’s claw extracts in capsules.
Clove
It is used as an anti-inflammatory substance in rheumatic diseases. Clove oil is ideal for inflamed joint massage.
Other healing herbs
For arthritis treatment use plants and food items that have analgesic, diuretic and calming effects.
First of all we recommend garlic, green anise, montana, artichoke, burdock, cornflower, Mullein, heather, chamomile, celandine, knotgrass, ferns, strawberries, currants, lavender, marjoram, mint, onion, dandelion, apple, rosemary, dishes, savory, sage, thyme, vervain, horseradish, onions.

Old folk arthritis remedy: Light raisins soaked in gin.
Many people swear on the efficiency of this old remedy. It is efficient due to the fact that gin is made of blueberry that is rich in terpinene and has strong anti-inflammatory effect and light raisins alleviate joint pain and swelling.
Recipe:
Pour gin over light raisins and cover the mixture with a cloth. Leave the mixture for at least seven days for alcohol to evaporate. After that keep the raisins in moist container and eat nine berries every day.
What to eat when suffering from arthritis
In almost 10% of cases, arthritis occurs as an allergic reaction on the food. The main cause of it is believed to be cereals containing gluten and dairy products.
If you suffer from arthritis, the easy way to check if your arthritis is caused by those products is to give up those food items for a week, and you can also take an allergy test.
Meat, especially cured meat products, contains fats that are among the leading causes of arthritis. On the other hand, if you are lactose-intolerant, there are high chances that your arthritis is caused by dairy products.
Food items that can significantly worsen arthritis and even cause disability are:
- corn
- wheat
- milk
- meat
- omega-6 (processed corn, beat or sunflower oil)
Many people found relief from arthritis in vegetarian diets, one of the most famous being Dong’s diet.
In this diet you are not allowed to eat any food that has a high inflammatory factor - meat, tomatoes, dairy products, peppers, alcohol, hot spices and chemical additives, especially sodium glutamate.
On the other hand, some ingredients found in food – such as omega 3 fatty acids - can regulate hormones that control inflammations, pains and other arthritic symptoms.
So start treating your arthritis symptoms with anti-inflammatory food that has medicinal effects.
Exercise against arthritis
The best physical activities for people suffering from arthritis are walking, cycling, swimming, yoga and Thai chi.
Perform exercises with extended movements, strength exercises and cardio exercises.
Do not be afraid to move if you suffer from arthritis, what should scare you is not moving!
Reasons for exercising more if you suffer from arthritis are the following:
- strengthening the muscles around joints
- enhanced bone firmness
