While you enjoy sunny days, beautiful greenery and flowers looking forward to your annual leave many people suffer from seasonal allergies.

Spring and summer may be dangerous seasons for people suffering from allergies to various herbs, ambrosia and wormwood.

In order to avoid unpleasant symptoms like headache, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, redness and itch many sufferers spend too much time in isolation.

They find refuge in closed spaces and take various antihistamines.

But, instead of staying at home, resorting to drugs and continuous nose blowing, the acupressure offers simple solutions which can make allergy sufferers' life easier and relieve their irritating symptoms.

Six points on the face

Acupuncture practitioners advise pressing on certain points before bouts of allergy in order to prevent the earliest symptoms.

If the symptoms have already developed, the acupressure will alleviate the illness and speed up the recovery.

All you need are six fingers and a little concentration and coordination.

Against the allergic reaction you need to treat the acupressure points for the colon, stomach and bladder.

It is best to perform the treatment on the face because these points, near the nose and forehead muscles, are also the spots where the allergic reactions most frequently appear.

The acupressure points for the colon are located besides the external sides of the nostrils. They should be treated with a diagonal pressure, upwards, towards the eyes.

The points for the stomach are under the eyes (on the spot where one feels a small depression in the bone). You need to stimulate them with the fingertips downwards, towards the mouth.

The points for the bladder delineate the inner end of the eyebrows and should be pressed upwards, towards the top of the head.

The aforementioned acupressure points are treated symetrically, on the both sides of the face. The pressure should be exerted twice on all six spots.

Apart from the precise positioning of the fingers pay attention to the direction of the pressure. Concentrate and carefully coordinate the moves.

Separate seventh point: spleen

As is the case with all illnesses, the problem of the allergy stems from an underlying imbalance in the organism.

Apart from the six points on the face the acupuncture practitioners will often treat the distant point for the spleen in order to resolve the cause of the allergic suffering.

The seventh point for the spleen is above the foot and under the most prominent bone on the inside of the ankle.

The said point should be stimulated only on the left foot.

In the acupuncture the spleen is important for the regulation of the moisture in the body.

The accumulated moisture creates constant and severe obstacles and causes allergic symptoms.

That's why acupuncture practitioners stimulate the spleen to remove the accumulated moisture and treat the allergies.

You may treat the spleen independently from the stimulation of the aforementioned points on the face.

It is simple to press the point for the spleen while watching television, reading or doing whatever in seated provided it doesn't require the use of hands.

While sitting with your legs crossed you may easily press a spot under the inside of the left ankle with your right index finger.

Even more simply, reclining in a chair or an armchair you can bend your left leg over your right thigh and stimulate the point for the spleen with your right index finger.

Find the most comfortable position, relax and start the massage.

Apart from the acupressure

  1. In the period when you suffer from allergies cut down or completely avoid dairy products. The milk creates mucus in the organism and the excess mucus will irritate the immune system and make the fight against allergy more difficult.

  2. During pollination take a shower as soon as you get home to reduce the amount of pollen lingering on the body. You should also wash your hair more frequently since the pollen trapped in the hair additionally irritates the respiratory system, specially when you sleep.

  3. Buy a neti pot for nasal irrigation. Neti is an old ayurvedic healing technique of cleansing respiratory tract. The irrigation of the sinus cavities eliminates the mucus, reduces the swelling of the sinus walls and immediately facilitates breathing. Use distilled water to avoid bringing bacteria onto the irritated mucous membrane.

  4. Inhale peppermint. The aroma of the peppermint essential oil reduces the nasal blockade and makes breathing easier. You can place a drop of oil on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, bring them near your nose and inhale.

Thanks to the acupressure you may now enjoy the season of flowering herbs and trees without fear of having to reach for tissues or living isolated from nature.
