Slowly but surely, the winter approaches, the season in which our skin is exposed to cold temperatures and wind.

Due to weather factors, even the healthiest skin in winter requires additional protection against external influences.

Summer skin care is no longer sufficient when the winter comes.

Take advantage of these simple recipes and tips at the end of this article to have a perfect velvety skin in winter conditions.


1. A simple honey and yogurt mask 

Ingredients

  • 1 soup spoon of yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (if your skin is usually very dry, add another teaspoon of honey)

Preparation

Mix all ingredients using a spoon. Before that dissolve honey in a container, which you have placed in another container filled with warm water.

Apply mask to clean, dry skin of the face using your hands. Leave the mask on your face for 15 minutes and then remove it with a soft towel soaked in warm water.

When you have thoroughly removed the mask, your skin will shine with natural shine that will last for days.


The effect of this mask

Yogurt is excellent for moisturizing, cleansing and softening the skin. It soothes irritation and purifies pores. Furthermore, it helps in the treatment of acne and eczema.

Honey is a natural antioxidant with antibacterial properties. It protects our skin in winter and summer, removes impurities from the pores and nourishes the skin.


2. Moisturizing coconut oil body lotion 

Ingredients

  • a few drops of your favorite essential oil
  • 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 1-2 drops of distilled water

Preparation

If the coconut oil is solid, melt it in a container, which you have put in another container filled with warm water. Then carefully mix all the ingredients until the mixture develops a creamy texture.


The effect of this lotion

Olive softens the skin and gives it a glow. It prevents premature aging of the skin and moisturizes it.

Coconut oil is widely used for cosmetic purposes. This oil nourishes, protects and hydrates the skin and increases the lipid content, which gives the skin its elasticity.


3. Homemade scrub for dry skin

Ingredients

  • juice of one lemon
  • 5 soup spoon of sea salt
  • 1 soup spoon of olive oil

By mixing these ingredients you will receive a luxurious body scrub.

Using a damp glove, rub this mixture into the wet skin of the body. Then rinse with lukewarm water.


4. Cream for severely damaged, cracked skin

Extremely dry and cracked skin is usually very itchy and irritated. To heal the most critical places, prepare this cream.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of cocoa butter
  • 2 soup spoons of beeswax
  • 2 teaspoons of distilled water
  • 3 soup spoons of sesame oil
  • 2 soup spoons of coconut oil
  • 1 soup spoon of olive oil

Preparation

Fill a larger container with water and put it on a low heat. In this container, place a small bowl. In this small dish you will slowly melt the wax.

Add distilled water and cocoa butter to melted beeswax and stir well.

When you get a uniform mixture, gradually add sesame, coconut and olive oil. Stir until the mixture is homogenous.

Remove the bowl from the heat and pour the mixture into a clean glass jar. As the mixture cools it will thicken.

Use this crème to nourish the face, hands, feet, elbows and other vulnerable and damaged areas during winter.


7 tips for dry skin in winter

  1. Invest in a humidifier
    In winter we spend a lot of time in heated areas, and it dries out our skin. Treat yourself to a humidifier. Humidifier does not have to be expensive - you can find good humidifiers under 40 EUR.
     
  2. Adjust your skincare according to the season
    Winter skin care differs significantly from summer skincare. Light creams and lotions should be replaced by greasy and richer products. Your skin needs them to painlessly overcome the winter.
     
  3. Take care of your feet and hands
    Add a few drops of cold pressed oils (coconut, shea, argan, sesame etc.) to your favorite cream. Once a week, apply an abundant layer of cream on your hands and feet, wear cotton gloves and socks during the night. In the morning, your skin will be soft and supple.
     
  4. Use oil bath
    Fill the tub with warm water and add a few drops of your favorite vegetable oil (almond, coconut, olive). This little trick will significantly soften your skin.
     
  5. Lip balm is required
    Your lips will have a difficult time to cope with the winter if you do not protect them in an appropriate manner. The thin skin of the lips remembers the weather conditions to which it is exposed. Regularly protect your lips with a balm based on natural vegetable oils.
     
  6. Drink plenty of fluids
    It is not enough to moisturize your skin from the outside. To make it deeply moisturized it is necessary to drink sufficient amounts of fluids. Apart from water, you can always drink teas, hot soups, fruits and vegetables that will help you increase your daily fluid intake.
     
  7. Do not take long hot water showers since that will additionally dry your skin.
    To protect your skin during the winter, you do not need expensive beauty products. With a little imagination and a few natural ingredients, you will be able to afford top quality care to your skin.
