Is your hair already oily the day after washing?
Do you have fluffy, messy and impossible hair that is hard to comb, or pick up in a ponytail and it’s the reason why you feel bad?
Don’t worry, the problem of oily hair and scalp bothers many, while some are struggling with the same problem only a few hours after washing their hair.
Besides looking unhygienic, fat concentration can cause itching, redness, hair loss (due to accumulated bacteria) and other problems that seem to be unsolvable.
Fortunately, nature in this case offers high-quality, simple and proven solutions that can help.
To fix the result, look for the cause.
So what causes this horrible greasy hair look?
What Causes Oily Scalp?
The problem with greasy scalp and hair is sometimes a result of irregular or improper hair washing, fatty diet and often excessive sebum secretion from the sebaceous glands.
Hyperactivity of these glands is typically the result of excess male hormones in the body or too many receptors of these hormones under the skin of the scalp.
The receptor molecules are sensitive to certain chemicals, which by means of such receptors become active in tissues.
Hormones may be temporarily or permanently disrupted. If the disruption is temporary, neat sleep, quiet life and a healthy diet would be of help.
But if that doesn’t help, then your hormonal problem may be chronic.
It is not easy to affect the work of endocrine system but it would be helpful to maintain better scalp hygiene.
If you have oily hair and scalp, wash them every day to prevent fat deposition, formation of dandruff, clogging the pores and the development of infections.
Avoid very aggressive shampoos for oily hair because they dry the scalp and irritate sebaceous glands.
It is advised to use mild shampoo for frequent washing, for example children’s shampoo.
It is best to use natural means to treat oily hair.
Natural Remedies for Treating Greasy Hair
1. Rinse with Lemon Juice
Thanks to citric acid, citrus fruit is salutary for the victims of oily skin and hair.
Squeeze 2 whole lemons and stir in 4 dcl of water.
After shampooing, gently dry your hair with a towel and then massage your scalp with this solution.
Leave it on your scalp for 5 minutes then rinse it with lukewarm water.
2. Lemon and Vinegar
Be creative and combine lemon with other ingredients that also reduce the activity of sebaceous glands.
Lemons go well with apple or wine vinegar. It contains acetic acid that is good for sebum.
In 2 dcl of water pour 2 tablespoons of vinegar and juice of 1 lemon.
After shampooing, rinse your scalp with this mixture first, then rinse with lukewarm water.
3. Lemon and Tea
Make 2 dcl of green, black or mint tea.
When tepid squeeze half a lemon into it.
After shampooing, apply the mixture on hair and scalp. Leave for 10 min and rinse in lukewarm water.
Tea contains tannin acid which acts as an astringent (shrink) on the skin and thus suppresses the secretion of fat.
If you don’t have any lemons, you can use only tea or a mixture of vinegar, but it is always better to use lemon juice.
4. Witch Hazel Oil
Witch hazel oil is a strong astringent and significantly helps with skin problems.
Add 4 drops of this oil to 2 tablespoons of water and stir well.
Dip a cotton swab in this mixture and spread on your scalp.
Repeat at least three times a week. If your scalp gets very oily you can do this treatment on daily basis.
5. Diluted Non-Alcoholic Beer
Beer removes excess fat and beautifies hair.
Mix a glass of beer (non-alcoholic) with a glass of water and with this mixture rinse your hair after shampooing.
Leave the mixture on your hair for 3 to 5 minutes then rinse with lukewarm hair.
6. Baking Soda
This white crystalline powder is present in most households and is another valuable reference tool against oily hair and scalp.
In one liter of water add 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda and shake it well.
Apply the mixture to your hair and scalp and leave it for 20 min.
Then wash your hair with a shampoo as usual and rinse with lukewarm water.
Do this treatment three times a week.
7. Dry Degreasing
To absorb excess oil from the scalp and hair, sprinkle baby powder, sandalwood powder or cornstarch.
Leave it for 5 minutes then brush.
This method is not suitable if you have week hair that is prone to breakage and falling.
