Niauli (Latin name Melaleuca viridiflora) is a species of tree that grows in Australia, New Caledonia and the neighboring territories.
Like its relative Melaleuca Leucadendron, it is an evergreen plant with a spongy bark that peels off.
It has spear-like and very aromatic leaves colour of ash and white flowers on a long stem.
Essential naiuli oil was brought to Europe only in the 17th century, but before that it was very much appreciated by the local population.

The oil is sparse and pale yellow to dark yellow in color, depending on the proportion of copper in the soil. It has a strong and spicy aroma with a hint of camphor.
The main ingredients of this oil are alpha phellandrene, limonene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, gamma-terpineol, linalool and piperiton.
