Have you ever visited a Chinese clothing store?
Surely you have experienced an unusual artificial fragrance.
That fragrance comes from a number of chemicals that are banned in the EU and the United States, but are permitted in China and other Asian countries, said Natural News.
And in Asia we find a large part of production for the Western market.
Consumers are mistaken if they think that synthetic fibers and colors in clothing they buy are medically safe.
Unfortunately, this is not the case.
For over half a century, people have suffered consequences of harmful chemicals that are coming into contact with their skin.
The more synthetic clothes you wear, the higher the risk of exposing yourselves to toxic chemicals and related diseases.
Among them are contact dermatitis, respiratory diseases, infertility and even cancer.
Danger called formaldehyde
Preservative formaldehyde is applied to many clothes after the production process is over. The role of formaldehyde is to prevent clothes from wrinkling and to prevent the formation of molds on clothes.
In clothes manufactured in China and Southeast Asia, the investigators found 100 to 500 times higher levels of formaldehyde than the level which is considered to be medically safe.
Users of such clothing suffer allergic reactions.
It is also known that formaldehyde is a carcinogen and that prolonged exposure to this chemical may cause cancer.
Textile toxins are difficult to avoid even when you do not wear clothes.
Formaldehyde and other toxic substances are used in the production of synthetic fibers for towels and linens.
Retardants – compounds that prevent burning – can be found in linen and pajamas.
Nonylphenol - poison for the hormonal system
Nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPE) is another chemical commonly used in clothes manufacturing process as a detergent.
It is banned in most developed countries, but not in countries where clothes destined for the Western market are produced.
Fourteen major brands produce their clothes in plants which use nonylphenol ethoxylate.
It breaks down into nonylphenol, a poison that can disrupt hormone function.
No wrinkles? That is suspicious!
If you see on the label that your piece of clothing does not wrinkle, that means that perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), believed to have carcinogenic properties, were probably used during the manufacturing process.
Black color for textile and leather often retain p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), which can cause allergic reactions.
The danger of bleach
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and bleach that creates dioxins are also frequently used in production plants.
These are highly toxic substances that cause problems in the development, lower immunity, interfere with the production of hormones and increase the risk of cancer.
The consequences of synthetic chemicals are denied in the marketing message by textile manufacturer DuPont, which reads: "A better life with the help of chemistry."
DuPont has created rayon, a synthetic fiber that is produced by chemical treatment of wood and it is used in the production of many of their garments.
Meanwhile, many have realized that the polluted air, water, food and clothing, with numerous consequences for health, do not make their life better.
Numerous allergic reactions
Clothing is full of chemicals that mostly affect our immune system and cause allergic reactions.
Allergic reactions which normally occur due to the influence of synthetic chemicals include the following:
- burning and itching
- soft tissue inflammation
- nausea
- exhaustion
- blurred vision
- shortness of breath
- recurrent sinus infections
If you suffer from these unexplained health problems, and wear synthetic clothes or sleep on synthetic sheets, this might be the source of your problem.
All for higher profits
Today's apparel industry earns seven thousand billion dollars per year, while using eight thousand synthetic chemicals in the production process.
In third world countries, the regulations governing the use of hazardous substances in the industry are much more lenient.
That is the reason why the majority of textile materials and clothing are produced in those countries and are then imported into the West.
Simply said, apparel companies make more money if they conduct their business that way.
Due to the irresponsible attitude of its government that does not limit the application of chemicals, China is now among the most polluted countries in the world.
Precisely such polluted manufacturing plants, where superiors do not care for the safety of workers or the end users of the product, are the ones that supply Western companies with large quantities of goods.
The westerners accept such production since it greatly reduces the production costs, as the workers in Third World countries are willing to work for meager wages.
Goods produced in such manufacturing plants end up in our stores, closets and finally on our bodies.
How can we protect ourselves
When buying clothes, sheets and towels, be sure to read the labels and try to avoid synthetic materials such as rayon, nylon, polyester, acrylic, acetate and triacetate.
Stay away from products that do not crease, do not require ironing or do not shrink.
Wash and dry your clothes three times before you wear them for the first time.
Only use safe and organic laundry detergent.
It is important to know
- The skin is our largest organ, and whatever touches the skin, enters the body
- Toxins that our skin absorbs pass into the lymphatic system and the blood. Finally they end up in the liver, a center for the removal of toxins
- The skin expels a part of toxins, but synthetic fibers suffocate the skin and block the expulsion of toxins, so they remain in the body
- The combination of a large number of chemicals can be more toxic for us than each chemical separately
