Two years ago, an American pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline was fined more than $3 billion.
It was the biggest fraud in the health care system in U.S. history.
The charges were related to the marketing of illegal drugs and withholding information about side effects of a drug for diabetes called Avandia, which each year killed more people than the Vietnam War.
But this is not the only case. Nearly 20% of economic crime is committed by pharmaceutical companies.
Some of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies were caught in the preparation of forged papers and concealing serious health side effects of their drugs.
In addition, they are also guilty for bribery and illegal activities, and were caught in the vicious tactics of intimidation.
Organisations such as the Institute for Investigative Journalism began investigating and publishing offenses that pharmaceutical companies had committed for decades with impunity.
A recently published study showed that most of the commercially available drugs on the market are misleading or misinforming the customers.
Also, there is evidence that most pharmaceutical companies made criminal offenses.
Dangerous drugs for sale
Newspaper articles were published suggesting that large pharmaceutical companies are operating as mafia organisations.
"The characteristics of organised crime and racketeering, including extortion, fraud, bribery, obstruction of justice, obstruction of law enforcement, tampering with witnesses, and political corruption."
Advertisements are misleading
Analysis of advertisements for drugs in the U.S. market has shown that most of them are misleading potential customers by offering them false information or half-truths.
Research published in the journal Psychological Science showed that customers after a while ignore warnings on drugs and pay attention only to the advantages of the product.
While it is true that fines against pharmaceutical companies are very high, it is nothing compared to their earnings. Such corrupt companies pay fines without many problems and still continue with their activities.
How to stay healthy
If a drug or treatment was obtained via the scientific method, that is still not a guarantee that it is safe and efficient.
On the contrary - if a natural remedy has not been tested or a study has not been published in a well-known medical journal, it does not mean that it is unsafe or ineffective.
For example, most natural remedies are designated as "dangerous" for pregnant and lactating women, just because they have not been tested on pregnant women!
It is necessary to decide what is best to do in a certain situation on the basis of common sense, professional advice or experience.
Regardless of any advice, you must understand that you are responsible for your health and the health of your family.
Pharmaceutical companies have their commercials and they are trying to sell their products and convince us that they have the best (and safe!) solutions.
What you need to do is to think about your choices and decide which way you want to go.
