Oil pulling - very simple and effective method of prevention and treatment used for thousands of years - sparked the interest of experts and the public.
This method is based on ayurvedic tradition described in ancient Indian texts.
Sanskrit word ayurveda is translated as “science of life and longevity”.
This 5000 year-old traditional Indian healing system has been proven effective multiple times so there is no doubt that ayurvedic medicine deserves our attention.
According to ayurveda, our health depends on the balance of three doshas - psycho-physiological energies that control our mind, spirit and body.
If one dosha is out of balance, we become sick. Often doshas lose balance because of ama (toxins) accumulating in our body.
Ayurveda offers several methods for cleansing our bodies of ama, and oil pulling (oil gargling) is one of them.
In this method, toxins (ama) are flushed out of our bodies by gargling sunflower or sesame oil every day.
Do not swallow the oil after that, you have to spit it out and then clean your mouth thoroughly.
Such procedure allows the body to defeat diseases without unwanted side-effects that are often caused by mainstream drugs.
How to perform oil pulling
Oil pulling is performed exclusively with cold pressed and unrefined oils.
Sunflower or sesame oils are recommended, but many examples from the practice prove that you can also use olive oil or any other type of cold pressed and unrefined oil.
Also, to achieve a better effect, you can add several drops of essential oil, depending on your disease.
Add lavender oil for calming and relaxing effect, rosemary for better circulation, chamomile against infections or anis for respiratory problems.
Apply this therapy on an empty stomach by putting a spoon of oil into the mouth and then slowly swishing the oil inside the oral cavity for 15 to 20 minutes.
Since the oil will soak in unhealthy compounds and toxins, you are not allowed to swallow it.
Prevent the urge to swallow by shortly stopping the swishing and taking a deep breath through nose. You can also do so-called "dry" swallowing, i.e. retaining the oil in the front part of the mouth while performing swallowing motion.
During swishing you will produce a lot of saliva, so the total volume inside your mouth will increase. If the volume is too big, spit out the excess amount, even if the recommended time did not expire.
In any case, spit out the entire content after 15 to 20 minutes.
Healing effects of oil pulling
This method is proven to be effective against many diseases and health problems, such as:
- headache
- toothache
- chronic fatigue
- insomnia
- asthma
- eczema
- pulmonary diseases
- arthritis
- intestinal and stomach diseases
- kidney, liver and heart diseases
- chronic blood diseases
- women problems
Furthermore, oil therapy whitens and strengthens teeth, stops gum bleeding and helps against paradentosis.
The secret of this method’s efficiency is in the fact that all six liters of blood in our body pass trough salivary glands in the period of 15 to 20 minutes, thus eliminating harmful compounds from our body.
Simply said, we can suck out the poisons from our body with the help of oil.
Apart from healing, this therapy can be used as a preventive measure since it strengthens immune system and prevents many diseases.
Advanced oil pulling techniques
After you have acquired some experience, adapt oil pulling time according to your needs.
Spit out the oil as soon as you feel that the density of the mixture in your mouth has changed. Still, the procedure should not last less than 10 or 12 minutes.
It is considered that after 2.5 minutes oil binds to the saliva, after 4.5 minutes it enters the blood stream and after 10 minutes it starts extracting harmful compounds through salivary glands.
After you spit it out, the oil should be white and sparse. If it is still yellow and dense it means you did not swish for long enough.
After you are finished, wash the oral cavity with warm water and brush your teeth. If you like, you can use salt water or wormwood tea for oral cavity washing in order to clear bad breath.
As a preventive measure, perform this procedure once a day, in the morning, on an empty stomach.
As a therapy, perform this procedure three times a day – before every meal.
Therapy duration
The duration depends on the disease you are trying to cure and overall state of your body.
Generally speaking, acute diseases may take less than a week; chronic diseases may take several months or a year.
It is necessary to perform this therapy until your body recovers completely.
Sometimes, your health can even become worse for a short while. You can develop fever, especially if you suffer from multiple diseases.
But, such health problems are temporary and are the sign of body detoxification, so keep performing this therapy until you are cured.
