According to many well-respected experts, iodine, or Lugol’s solution, could save many people from illnesses.

Lugol’s solution is a mix of elemental iodine and potassium iodide, first made in 1829.
It was named after French physicist J.G.A Lugol.
It is generally known to the world as a universal disinfectant for, for example, water, infections and skin wounds.
But it is also a natural source of iodinqe, which is missing in the body.
Iodine is essential for every organ and all tissues in the human body, not just the thyroid.
The thyroid uses iodine for the production of hormones which are crucial for the metabolism, protein synthesis and growth.
Unfortunately, emphasis is today placed on the harmfulness of iodine. This element is mostly linked to thyroid disease, while its historic application as a universal medicine has been forgotten.
Iodine and Lugol solution through history
Although it is today considered to be harmful, historically the use of iodine and Lugol solution proved to be quite the opposite.
Iodine was once considered to be such an important element that it was almost routinely added to bread dough until twenty years ago.
Throughout history, Lugol solution was used to treat the gout and as a first aid in low secretion of the thyroid (hypothyroidism).
During the Chernobyl disaster, it was used to disinfect water, block radioactive iodine, and to prevent of thyroid disease.
Available over-the-counter, potassium iodide stops the accumulation of radioactive iodine in the thyroid, where it can cause cancer.
There is much scientific evidence showing it helps in the treatment of cancer.
Lugol solution is a natural iodine supplement, and a shortage of it in the body can lead to numerous consequences, including diminished cognitive function of the brain, stunted growth, and metabolism problems.
“Supplementation with high doses of iodine may be the safest, easiest, most efficient, and also an inexpensive way to push through a health crisis affecting the nation" - said dr. Guy Abraham, an endocrinologist and researcher dedicated to exploring the health benefits of iodine.
The Nobel laureate who discovered vitamin C, Dr Albert Szent Gyorgyi, once said:
“When I was a young student, iodine and potassium iodide were a universal medicine. Nobody knew how they worked, but we knew it worked exceptionally well.”
Dr David Derry, a successful endocrinologist, said of it:
“Iodine is the best antibiotic, anti-virus and antiseptic agent of all time.
The medicinal effect of iodine
- Improves brain function
- Prevents cancer
- Protects against heart disease
- Natural antibiotic and antioxidant
- Acts against parasites
- Excellent disinfectant
- Balances hormones
- Shrinks cysts on ovaries and breasts
Studies show that in places where the ground is found to contain greater quantities of iodine, statistics indicate there are fewer cases of breast cancer to be found.
The Japanese have among the lowest cancer rates in the world and they consume on average 13 milligrams of iodine a day.
The Japanese also are among the most intelligent nations in the world, which can partially be prescribed to iodine, which has a very beneficial effect on mental health.
Iodine can also both prevent and improve cases of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
Cleaning the body with iodine is the best way to remove metals: fluoride, bromine, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, aluminum and lead.
Heavy metals are considered to be one of the primary causes of autoimmune disease.
Iodine helps in dissolving plaque in the arteries, helps prevent heart attacks and strokes, and alleviates other problems relating to atherosclerosis.
It balances the hormones and reduces symptoms of diabetes as well as the need for diabetes medication.
People used to use it to kill parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi, and some sources list it as a total cure for bladder infections.
Some symptoms of iodine deficiency
- Brittle nails
- Depression
- Dry hair, hair loss
- Hoarse throat
- Irregular period
- Slow heartbeat
- Cold hands and feet
- Difficulty swallowing
- Lethargy
- Infertility
- Premature menopause
- Sore throat
- Feeling chilly
- Dry skin
- High cholesterol
- Thinned outer eyebrows
- Weak memory
- Weight gain
Iodine deficiency is one of the greatest problems of our age and it is partially a result of the consumption of goitrogenous foods which reduce its absorption in the body.
Also significant is the increased consumption of iodine blockers - bromine, chlorine and fluorine, traces of which are found in foods consumed daily.
Even though salt is iodized, the quantities it contains are not enough to prevent many diseases, and the form of iodine it contains can’t be fully used by the body.
A Croatian study from 2009 has indicated that as many as one fifth of the subjects had concentrations of iodine in their body which were too low.
The results can easily be transferred to the overall population, which would indicate that a million Croats suffer from iodine deficiency.
The same study determined that 50 percent of pregnant women in Zagreb, which is in a region of Croatia with the highest iodine intake, suffered the same problem. An iodine deficiency during pregnancy can lead to severe mental retardation, ADHD, depression and dwarfism.
The situation is worrisome, because it can be concluded from the study that the situation in other regions of Croatia is even worse, and that these numbers are even higher elsewhere.
Preparing Lugol solution
Lugol solution can be prepared as follows:
For 1 litre of iodine solution, mix 44 grams of granulated iodine with 88 grams of granulated potassium iodide.
Dissolve the potassium iodide in 0.47 litres of water.
Then add the iodine crystals followed by water, up to the one litre mark.
It takes approximately one day for the ingredients to dissolve completely.
From time to time, shake the mixture in order to speed up/facilitate the dissolving.
Avoid the use of bottled water when preparing this solution. It is best to use distilled water.
One drop of Lugol solution contains 6.47 mg of elemental iodine.
Keep out of reach of children.
You can buy Lugol solution in the Alternativa Webshopu.
How to take Lugol solution
It is recommended to take Lugol solution with apple vinegar.
The officially recommended daily dose is 150 μg (micrograms), but that dose is far smaller than what is used in alternative medicine.
With illnesses, it is recommended one begins with 12.5 mg of Lugol solution, which is 2 drops a day, and slowly increases the dose until reaching the maximum of 50 mg, depending upon the illness.
For persons suffering hyperthyroidism or diabetes, caution is advised – such persons should begin with smaller doses of the solution.
While taking larger doses of Lugol solution, it is possible one experiences detoxification symptoms, such as feeling hot, sweating and mild headaches. These symptoms will pass within 2-3 days with the intake of sufficient quantities of fluids.
Do not use Lugol solution if you are allergic to iodine.
Recommended doses by disease
| Problem | Lugol solution dose | Comment |
| Acne | 2 drops a day | |
| Atrial fibrillation/ arrhythmia | 1-5 drops gradually-Then 1-2 drops for maintenance | It is recommended you gradually increase the dosage the first few days in order to supervise potential side-effects up until the heart begins beating regularly. At that point, you have reached an ideal dose (on average 9-30 mg). Use that dose for three months, then reduce it every day. If you experience an irregular heartbeat, go back to the previous dose for maintenance (on average, 3-12 mg). |
| Baldness | Rub in 3 months | |
| Bladder infection | 1-2 drops 4 times a day | Works better than an antibiotic. |
| Cancer | 4 drops 2 times a day |
Dr. Brownstein used a dose of 200 mg all the way up to 300 mg for metastasized prostate cancer and breast cancer. In breast cancer it is used through an inhaler.
|
| Candida | 8 drops a day | |
| High cholesterol | 2-4 drops a day | Iodine reduces lipoprotein (antioxidants) which prevents oxidative damage to arterial wall. |
| Chronic bronchitis/emphysema | 3-6 drops a day |
Regular use reduces phlegm and encourages expectoration. Can be applied as an inhalation spray for lung cancer, emphysema, asthma and tuberculosis.
|
| Cold/flu | 6 drops every 2-3 hours during one day | |
| Cuts | External use | Disinfects and heals wounds |
| Dermatitis | External application |
3 times a day for two days rub Lugol solution into to wound.
Expect a burning sensation. In ten seconds, rub vitamin E oil to the wound. Then rub the area with Lugol solution and vitamin E once a day for three days. After that rub the area every ten days. The skin may be red, but the vitamin E will speed up healing.
|
| Against worms in dogs and cats | 1-2 drops, depending on weight | The effect is slower than with commercial pills but is also much safer. |
| Fibrocystic breasts/ovarian cysts | 4 drops 2 times a day | This dose reduces cysts in the breasts within 3-6 months. The minimum daily dose of Lugol is 0.1 mg/kg of body weigh. |
| Fibrosis/keloids/fistula | Rub in 3 times a day in combination with DMSO 1:1 |
Helps with dupuytren’s contractures / Peyronie's disease with the consumption of para-aminobenzoic acid 3 x a day. To reduce keloids, it is necessary to take Lugol solution for up to a year.
|
| Food poisoning/parasites | 6 drops 3 x a day for 3 days | Brings relief very quickly, and helps with, for example, salmonella or Giardia lamblia. |
| Gerd | 2 drops a day | |
| Grave’s disease, cretinism | 0.05 mg a day | The lowest dose for preventing the stated conditions. |
| Heavy metal detox | 2 drops a day | Levels of mercury, lead, and cadmium reduced already within 24 hours. For the detoxification of aluminium, a month or more of continuous supplementation is required. |
| Hypothyroidism | 1-6 drops a day | These doses are enough to stimulate the thyroid. |
| Inflamed nail | Rub in a few times a day | |
