There are many ways of detoxifying the body - cleansing the liver, kidneys, lungs, intestines etc.
However, sometimes we forget that the skin is our largest organ.
What's with that? Is there a way of detoxifying the skin?
Dry brushing is a technique that allows you to cleanse the skin while helping to detoxify the internal organs.
Method of dry brushing was introduced a Finnish doctor called Paavo Airola 30 years ago.
This method is popular today and is used in many spa salons and health centers.
However, this method is not something new.
Dry brushing has been applied in Russia, Turkey and Scandinavia for hundreds of years.
Dry brushing is known for its cosmetic effect of renewing skin: it removes old, dry skin and allows the creation of a new, smooth and gentle skin.
However, restoring the skin is not the only benefit of dry brushing.
It is known that dry brushing:
- resolves cellulite
- cleanses the lymphatic system
- removes layers of dead skin
- strengthens the immune system
- stimulates the production of hormones and glands
- tightens the skin, preventing its premature aging
- stimulates blood circulation
- improves the nervous system
- improves digestion
- beautifully shapes muscles
- is easy, inexpensive and does not require a lot of time
What does it take to dry brush your skin?
The only thing you will need is a brush with a long handle, made of natural materials. It is better if the brush has a removable top with a hand strap. Here's what I mean:

(Such a brush can be purchased in health food stores and natural cosmetics.)
If you can not find the right brush, there is no reason to worry. You can also use a sponge made of natural materials (loofah) or rough towel.
In my experience, most synthetic brushes are too harsh and can damage the skin. If you find a soft brush, you can use it without a problem.
The main thing is that you do what best suits your skin. When the skin gets used to a softer brush, you can move on to something "stronger".
How to perform dry brushing?
1. Always perform brushing on dry skin. After brushing, take a shower or a bath, to wash off the old skin cells and toxins that were released in the process of brushing.
2. Brush your legs with long, straight brush strokes from your feet up, then hands and shoulders, then your backs from up towards down and your belly from bottom up
Such brushing will direct lymph toward the heart.
(Note: Brushing in the opposite direction is not recommended, because it directs the lymph away from the heart, which can cause additional burden on veins and lymphatic vessels.)
However, it is better to see once than to hear 100 times. I believe that you will understand the process of dry brush well when you look at this video:
3. Perform skin brushing once a day – it is best to do it the morning, before showering. For detailed dry brushing you will need only 15 minutes. But even 5 minutes of brushing will bring benefit to your health. If you feel sick, increase skin brushing to 2 times a day.
4. In places with a hard and rough skin, such as soles, use light pressure.
5. If you want to get rid of cellulite, devote more time to troubled areas. Brush areas affected by cellulite 5-10 minutes a day. To get good results, you need to continue this treatment for at least five months.
6. Avoid brushing places with sensitive or injured skin (wounds, cuts, places affected with infection or rash).
7. Finish dry brushing with a shower. At the end of the shower make three hot and three cold cycles:
- For a few seconds, let the hot water run (so hot that it you can only tolerate it for a few seconds - not recommended for heart patients!).
- Then spend a few seconds under cold water (so cold that it you can only tolerate it for a few seconds).
- Repeat this 3 times
- finish showering with cold water
Hot-icy showers further strengthen the skin, stimulate the secretion of toxins, stimulate blood circulation and nourish the skin's outer layer.
After showering
Dry yourself thoroughly and rub the skin with natural oils such as olive, almond, sesame, coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa, avocado, etc. If you have arthritis, add a little peanut butter and castor oil into the mixture of oil.
Wash your brush once a week with soap and water. After washing, leave the brush in a dry and open space in order to avoid the formation of molds.
You will feel the benefits of dry brushing after 30 days of opportunity. Be persistent and continue with brushing! To perform deep lymph cleansing, continue brushing for at least 3 months.
