For a number of years, we have been bombarded from all sides by information that cholesterol in our organism causes irreparable damage.
Accordingly, if we want to be healthy, we have to drastically decrease the intake of animal fat such as milk, butter, cheese, crème and other dairy products.
But, is that really the truth? It appears not, since an increasing number of doctors and scientists claim that this is a fallacy of mythological proportions.
Let’s start from the beginning and first mention the largest research conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), i.e. their MONICA project (Multinational MONItoring of trends and determinants in CArdiovascular disease).
This research had a goal, among many goals, to research the connection between cardiovascular diseases and cholesterol.
That link was never proven, although the aforementioned research was conducted in 21 countries worldwide in a span of over 10 years on the biggest sample ever, i.e. on 10 million men and women.
Although the results of that prolonged and extremely costly research were completely clear, they were swept under the rug quickly because – and you guess it right – they were not in accordance with the expectations of WHO.
So, we can conclude that the truth is known for a long time but is covered because of the interests of others, as it seems, much more lucrative truth.
Like the truth that 20 years ago, at the time this research was conducted, medicaments for lowering cholesterol levels were already in use, and that is something that was not to be changed.
Since cholesterol was wrongly accused as the main cause of heart and blood vessel diseases, medicinal science started recommending that animal fats be removed from the human diet.
Instead of them, experts started recommending industrially refined herbal oils.
Butter was replaced with the popular margarine and today we are still advised to decrease consumption of some food items, such as cheese and crème, as much as possible.
Cholesterol is not the real cause of heart diseases
The aforementioned WHO research results regarding the inability of linking cardiovascular diseases and cholesterol are confirmed by Dr. Dwight Lundell, a prominent cardiac surgeon who performed over 5000 operations in his 25-year-long career.
Citing scientific researches conducted in the past several years and using his rich experience, Dr. Lundell claims that the main cause of heart and cardiovascular diseases is an inflammatory process in arteries that is a consequence of diets with insufficient saturated fats.
In other words, what really causes damages to our blood vessels are herbal oils with high omega-6 fatty acid contents such as sunflower, soy and corn oils and excessive consumption of products containing high flour and sugar contents.
Because, according to Dr. Lundell, official medicine made a huge mistake by advising people to avoid saturated fats and use multiple unsaturated oils instead.
These long standing dietary recommendations brought about obesity and diabetes epidemic which, according to mortality, human suffering and material expenses, have surpassed any other scourge humanity ever faced.
Although atherosclerotic plaque (fatty-binding residue on artery walls) contains low amounts of cholesterol and despite the fact that such residues are mostly made of multiple unsaturated fats, the propaganda machine was successful in its actions.
Most people today blindly follow officially recommended diets that are poor in saturated fats and rich in multiple unsaturated fats and carbohydrates not knowing that such diets are causing immense damage to their blood vessels.
Such ignorance should not be surprising if we consider the fact that the society we live in is driven by the desire for lucrative profits. It is sad but true that the pharmaceutical industry has no benefit from a healthy man and that statins, medicaments for lowering cholesterol levels, are among the top selling medicaments worldwide.
Accordingly, it is not hard to see the connection between food industry and the pharmaceutical industry. Production of “healthy food” that makes people sick is perfectly lucrative for both industries.
Cholesterol’s real role
Walter Hartenbach, the author of the book titled “Cholesterol lie”, published worldwide, tells us about the real nature of cholesterol and its role in the human organism.
He claims that cholesterol – which we all fear so much and think of it as some dreadful compounds that damages our organism - is in fact building block of cell membranes of all tissues and that cholesterol is needed for normal functioning of our organism.
Since cholesterol participates in the creation of hormones, vitamins A, D and E and bile acid, lowering of cholesterol levels directly leads to weakened vitality and fertility, disorders in bone and musculature creation and serious disorders on electrolyte levels that lead to serious heart and neurological complications.
Judging by the results of numerous studies, diets that recommend reduction of fats and cholesterol have no effect on the health of our heart and blood vessels.
So it is a high time to label cholesterol myth for what it is - one of the biggest fallacies of our time and to harmonize our dietary habits with the common sense.
If we truly wish to be happy we have to go back to traditional diets based on saturated fats.
Saturated fats strengthen immunity and prevent many disease occurrences. Their fatty acids are anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-microbial in nature.
They prevent osteoporosis, feed our brain and ensure regular performance of nervous and hormonal system and they are proven to reduce the risk of heart and cardiovascular diseases.
Diet rich in natural fats is in no way damaging our health. Quite the contrary, such diets are extremely healthy and offer multiple benefits.
In any case, reduction of carbohydrate intake and increased intake of natural fats, such as fats found in milk, butter, chesse and coconut oil, will in long term protect you against many diseases and visits to the doctor.
