Arganovo ulje

Some of you must have heard of the Argan oil, also known as the Moroccan oil.

Argan oil is made from the nut kernels, fruits of Argan tree (lat. Argania spinose) which grows only in southwestern part of Morocco. The Berber (indigenous people of North Africa) also call it “the tree of life”.

Argan oil is valued in many ways and especially for its traditional production.

Women pick and collect argan nuts by hand. They brake the nuts with the stone and grind them into a thick paste. The paste is then pressed in order to extract the pure oil.

It is a very demanding and long procedure which makes this oil a valuable and rare product.

There are many benefits of argan oil.

It has been used for nurturing skin, hair and nails. It is consider as a nectar of beauty which Moroccan women used for centuries in their beauty rituals.

Ingredients and Effects of Argan Oil

Argan oil is perfect for skin, hair and nails.

Due to its nutritive ingredients it is considered as one of the most powerful anti-age oils in the world.

It contains saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic, alfa linoleic and oleic acid), sterols, vitamin E, minerals and carotenoids.

Tocopherols, better known as vitamin E, are the most valuable ingredients of argan oil.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which prevents and reduces scars, eczema and eases dry scalp.

Second important ingredients of argan oil are carotenes which protect the skin from UV radiation.

Essential fatty acids present in argan oil prevent skin inflammations, making the skin hydrated and strong at the same time.

It contains a high level of squalene a natural compound which protects the skin from cancer and eases irritation.

Feruling acid present in aragan oil stabilizes vitamin C and E, doubling their effect.

Argan oil also contains polyphenols, a plant’s natural compounds, which have an anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect on the skin.

Argan oil is suitable for all skin types and it can be used by children and women during their pregnancy.

It nourishes and hydrates the skin, helps with dermatitis, psoriasis and prevents infections.

11 Ways to Use Argan Oil

1. Face Toner for Shinny and Healthy Skin

Argan oil can be used as a nourishing make-up toner or as a moisturizer for the whole body.

The oil is immediately absorbed in the skin, making it a non-greasy oil that naturally hydrates the skin. Therefore it can be used for the treatment of mixed and problematic skin.

If you prefer a more natural approach make your own toner: leave green tea bag to seep for 7-10 minutes in 2 dcl cup of boiled water.

Remove the tea bag and allow to cool before adding 1 drop of essential oil as you prefer (orange, lemon or tea tree essential oil) and 2-4 drops of argan oil. Pure it in a glass jar.

Use morning and night after facial cleaning.

2. Night Hydration

Argan oil absorbs itself quickly and doesn’t leave oil traces on your skin. Therefore it can be used for night hydration.

Put a single drop of argan oil in the palms, warm it slowly with your hands and then apply to the face and neck.

Since aragan oil contains vitamins A and E it has a natural anti-aging effect and nourishes delicate face areas.

3. Soft and Nurturing Peeling

Dead skin cells can be removed from the whole body by using argan oil combined with brown sugar.

This soft and nurturing peeling will make your skin shiny and healthy. Your skin will be nourished, attractive and glowing, while at the same time its application will reduce dirt and ease irritations.

Peeling can also be used in case you have dry elbows and heels.

Just mix one table spoon of brown sugar with 3 drops of argan oil. Rub on you face or any other part of your body in a circular motion for 2-4 minutes.

Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

4. Natural Acne Treatment

High linoleic acid content makes argan oil an excellent solution for problematic skin affected with acne.

It helps reducing skin sebum and skin inflammations. Therefore it is suitable for treating acne at any age.

It protects the skin from scars and boosts skin’s healing effect. This is another advantage of argan oil in comparison to other oils.

Place one drop of oil in the palm of your hand and gently apply it to the problematic area.

5. Treating Razor Bumps and Burns

Argan oil effectively calms and nurtures irritated and damaged skin.

It can be used as a treatment for sunburns or any other skin burns, for healing skin irritation after shaving (for men and women) and for nurturing damaged and dry skin.

Afterwards, apply a drop of pure argan oil directly on the stretch mark leaving it to absorb.

Argan oil nurtures, refreshes and cleanses the skin. It ensures skin’s glow, nourishment and health. This is why argan oil should become your favorite new body lotion.

8. Leave-In Conditioner

Argan oil conditioner makes your hair easier to style. It nourishes your hair, makes it glow and heals split hair ends.

It will protect your hair from wind, sun, sea salt and hair dryer that can damage your hair.

It can be used for adding extra glow to your hair or help you enhance curly hair.

You can apply argan oil on wet or dry hair, but don’t wash it off.

Depending on the length of your hair, take 1-3 drops of argan oil and easily rub it from hair ends to scalp.

9. Lip Balm

If you want soft, gentle and nourished lips, argan oil is what you need.

By applying argan oil, your lips will be nourished and rejuvenated and protected from sun and wind.

Take one drop of argan oil, put it on your finger and gently rub it on your lips.

It will absorb quickly and have an immediate effect. Wipe away any surplus.

10. Treatment for Beautiful and Healthy Nails

Argan oil is good for your nails.

It prevents nail damage. It nourishes, protects the cuticles and gives nails their natural glow.

It protects from painful and unpleasant hangnails.

Use it as a base before applying nail polish and for everyday nourishment of hands.

Dot a fraction of a drop directly onto each nail and rub into gently and leave it for few moments to absorb.

Rinse with warm water.

11. Anti-ageing Treatment

Argan oil can induce skin regeneration, ease visible sun freckles and decrease skin inflammations. It can protect skin from bad impacts of the environment.

Supply and Conservation

Beware, the market provides products that do not always contain pure argan oil, but synthetic and harmful ingredients.

Before purchasing check that the product ingredients lists nothing but 100% pure argan oil or 100% argania spinosa kernel oil.

Pure argan oil should contain a gentle nut scent, which reminds of olive oil. The oil is creamy and absorbs itself quickly to hair and skin in just few minutes.

The market provides oils that have a different smell. Consumers note that the oil that has no quality or is spoilt if it has a very unpleasant smell.

But if argan oil has no specific nut scent, it does not necessary mean it is false.

The smell of argan oil depends on many factors - type of soil, humidity, amount of rain and other climate conditions before harvesting.

Also it depends on production (in some parts of Morocco it is mechanically produced by using cold pressure) and production for other means.

West market demands argan oil to be without smell, for example for cooking or for producing cosmetics.

When buying look for argan oil that is labeled as organic or bio in order to be certain that your product has quality. Keep it in glass bottles, secured in dark places.

I had heard of argan oil being used for hair, I have even used it myself and loved it! However, I had no idea that it could be used for skin care. A lot of women I know suffer from razor bumps and stretch marks; knowing that argan oil can make them less visible is especially great as summer is approaching.
