Our bodies digest almost everything that enters them.
The remains of food after digestion can be measured by pH.
It is determined by the chemical reaction of food eaten and by this method we can see if the food was acidic or alkaline.
As I mentioned, our bodies are naturally alkaline and we do not get pleasure from foods which are too acidic.
PH stands for the potential of hydrogen, which will indicate the acidity or alkalinity of certain foods, and that scale is from 0 to 14.
When food has a pH of 7, it means that it is neither alkaline nor acidic, and that the value is neutral.
All food that has a pH below 7 is acidic, while those with above 7 are alkaline.
This makes the following trick question interesting:
Is lemon acidic? No!
Like many types of fruits and vegetables before we eat them, lemon is acid.
But after digestion in the body, its pH value is increased thanks to potassium (potassium is highly alkaline).
And conversely - most foods of animal origin and dairy products will be alkaline before they enter the body, but after digestion their pH value decreases.
The reason is the high protein value of food, as proteins diminish the value of amino acids.
What is truly vital to our alkaline body and a balanced pH is a sufficient intake of water.
Remember that water intake is as important as food intake.
Our body is 70% water. The blood is 94% water, which shows how important fluid intake is.
Drink good quality, clean water, and avoid consuming flavored water, which may contain artificial sweeteners.
They are bad alkali and full of dangers – they will worsen the healthy pH of the body, and have been proven to be carcinogens.
How can one check if their body is alkaline or acidic?
With the help of pH test strips for urine or saliva.
It is best that you do not cumber yourself with that.
It is more important to introduce excellent alkaline foods that will do the important part of the work in your body, and drink plenty of fluids, along with exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle.
Of course, keep in mind what the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL - carbohydrate, energy value of foods) is in the food you eat to avoid insulin jumps and fatigue.
It's optimal for your health to follow a daily a ratio of 60% alkaline and 40% acidic foods.
Find out below what alkaline foods can be used as food and medicine.
Superior alkaline (alkaline) foods
1. Buckwheat
An excellent replacement for wheat and its products.
It is rich in fiber, contains rutin, which energizes us, and is excellent in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Buckwheat is recommended food for people with diabetes because of its low glycemic index.
It is important for those who have heart problems, since it is rich in magnesium and potassium, which together not only strengthen our heart, but also the bones.
2. Chard
Similar to spinach, this type of alkaline vegetable has a bitter and slightly salty taste which reduces the appetite and helps regulate a healthy body weight.

Fresh and pickled cabbage has antiviral, antibacterial and anticancer effects.
It is rich not only in vitamin C, A and E but also in essential minerals such as calcium, which is important for heart health and the nervous and skeletal system.
It contains magnesium, which promotes the health of nerves and muscles, and potassium, which is important for healthy kidney functioning.
Many of us, when we cook these kinds of vegetables, will throw away the water due to its odor, which results from sulfur.
The next time you cook these vegetables do not throw it away, but rather use it for the preparation of sauces or as a drink. It is rich in sulfur, which has revitalizing properties and cleanses the body of toxins.
No matter how you prepare the food, you can’t go wrong.

Avocados contain an abundance of lutein, making it the ideal food for eye health, as well as a preventative measure against macular degeneration.
But even though it’s a super-healthy food, you have to bear in mind that the average avocado (weighing about 200 grams) contains about 320 calories and its total fat is 29.47 grams, which means you need to watch out and be moderate in its intake!
6. Apple and pear
These two top super-fruits are at our fingertips, and their common feature is that they cleanse the body in-depth.
Therefore, it is not surprising that there are detox programs that do not offer anything other than apples and pears.
Pectin – a soluble dietary fiber - is another common characteristic of both of these fruits.
It is known that pectin reduces bad cholesterol and prevents constipation and diarrhea.
Pears help the thyroid, whose malfunction causes many unpleasant symptoms, including weight gain, work better.
Apples have quercetin - a potent antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory activity, and is mainly concentrated just below the skin.
Therefore, for intake of this important nutrient, choose ecological apples you do not need to peel!
7. Celery
This super-root not only eliminates toxins, but also relaxes, protects the heart and increases the libido.
It drives calories into a "minus" - as soon as you eat it, it creates negative calories and requires more calories to be digested in the body than it actually contains.
8. Broccoli
Broccoli and other vegetables from the same family of brassicas - brussel sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage - are full of healthy nutrients.
With the wealth of vitamin C, broccoli contains calcium, folic acid, beta-carotene and is an ideal vegetable for our lungs, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, especially the colon.
It helps the liver to better eliminate toxins from the body.
The characteristic flavor of this, as well as other cabbage-like vegetables, comes from the sulfur components, known as isothiocyanates, which research associates with a protective role, even against the genetic predisposition of lung cancer.
For the best performance of the vegetable try to eat it at least 3 times a week.
9. Flax and linseed oil
They are rich in lignans, which help prevent breast, uterine and prostate cancers and contain essential omega-3 fatty acids.
It is an ideal application for body cleansing, a natural remedy for constipation, and it reduces cholesterol and regulates blood sugar.
Flax is an excellent choice for those who have a sensitive digestive system and for those suffering from ulcers.

Olive oil and olives are common foods in our Mediterranean climate and belong to the top of alkaline foods.
They are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, and olive oil contains the antioxidant vitamin E, which not only reduces the risk of damage and inflammatory cells, but also helps with hot flashes in menopausal women.
The polyphenols in olive oils provide anti-inflammatory activity and reduce the symptoms of asthma, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Olives and their oil have a number of health benefits, but they contain more vitamin E, lutein and phytosterols.
By consuming them we supply the body with valuable vitamins soluble in fats.
Olive oil and olives have another important function - they belong to foods that rejuvenate.
