The next time you are lethargic and sleepy, breathe in the wakefulness and freshness of stimulating essential oils.
This can be more helpful than energetic drinks.
Some essential oils increase the energy, vitalize and stimulate activity.
They have such properties due to molecules that reach our brains trough our nostrils and then stimulate the central nervous system.
Essential oils with stimulating activities
Essential oils are a good alternative for lifting energy instead of coffee or chocolate bars.
The most suitable oil for this purpose are those with citric or hot-bitter scent.
Remember how the scent of orange juice itself wakes you up in the morning. Essential do it even better.
Researches indicate that exposure to certain oils increases alertness, energy and endurance.
For example, Japanese researchers have discovered that the essential oil of lemon effectively increases the productivity of office workers.
Study in Miami found that rosemary oil reduces fatigue and delays the need for sleep.
The most popular oils with certified stimulating effect:
- lemon
- lemon grass
- grapefruit
- tangerine
- orange
- bergamot
- ginger
- mint
- jasmine
- eucalyptus
- rosemary
- basil
Oil application
We do not recommend inhaling the oil directly from the bottle, because the moment of clumsiness can cause an occasional drop to end up in your nasal mucosa or in the mouth, which is a very unpleasant experience - the opposite of comfort provided by the scent of essential oils.
Instead of inhaling from a bottle, put a few drops of oil on a piece of cotton or linen handkerchief and inhale it in batches of four or five deep breaths.
Or put a few drops on your wrist or palm, rub your hands and let oil molecules enter your nostrils. Limit yourself to a few drops, because more than that might harm the skin.
Essential oils are not applied directly to the skin in large quantities, since that can cause skin irritation.
They must first be diluted in the base oil such as almond or St. John's Wort oil.
Such diluted oil may be freely used on the skin. The correct ratio is six drops of essential oil for one tablespoon of base oil.
Aerosols
Oil lamps and diffusers are two ways to spread the oil molecules that energize and empower.
Pour a mixture made of essential oils and base oil, or water, into an aroma lamp container or into a bottle with dispenser.
There are electric dispensers that do not work on the principle of the spray, but heat. These are small devices in which the oil or a mixture is poured in and they are plugged into the electric sockets. When the device warms up, the oil molecules are released into the room.
Aromatic baths are the most favorite application method in aromatherapy, combining the pleasure of lying in the tub with the intoxicating fragrances of essential oils.
For the preparation of aromatherapy baths for adults, pour five to ten drops of oil in one spoon of selected base oil, and then add the mixture to the bath.
Mixtures of oils
Essential oils can be mixed for possible joint effects.
We suggest you few mixtures for increasing energy levels.
Rosemary and grapefruit
- 2-3 drops of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
- 2-3 drops of grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
Rosemary improves circulation, relieves muscle pain, stimulates the lymphatic system and helps against cellulite.
Grapefruit also activates the lymphatic system, reduces fluid retention, accelerates muscle recovery after exercise, and lifts the mood.
Pine, eucalyptus and rosemary
- 2 drops of pine (Pinus sylvestris)
- 2 drops of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus radiata or citriodora).
- 2 drops of rosemary
Pine has a refreshing forest scent that not only energizes but clears our nose, strengthens muscles and gives you a boost when you are weak and lethargic.
Eucalyptus oil is also beneficial for the respiratory tract and muscles, and it also has anti-viral and anti-bacterial effects.
Mint, grapefruit and thyme
- 1-2 drops of peppermint (Mentha piperita)
- 2 drops of thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
- 2-3 drops of grapefruit
The much praised mixture injects high doses of energy to those who feel "overrun." An additional benefit is its effect against colds if applied early enough.
While the growth of energy is due to the mint and grapefruit, anti-cold protection is primarily due to thyme, since it raises the immunity.
All these mixtures and individual oils are best used in the morning or in the afternoon, while it is better to avoid them in the evenings, unless you plan to stay awake.
