Dr. Barry Sears is one of the most famous American nutritionist today and a leading authority on the impact of food on hormones and health.
As a scientist at Boston Medical School and MIT, he has dedicated more than thirty years of work to the study of lipids.
He is the author of seven books that were sold in over five million copies in the United States alone, not counting books translated into 22 foreign languages.
A turning point in his research took place in 1982 when the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology was given to a group of scientists from Sweden and the United Kingdom for the discovery of how eicosanoids, a special group of hormones, are interfering with the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and cancer.
Since eicosanoids arise solely from fat that we consume, Dr. Sears realized that these principles can be applied to food and thus achieve precise control of these very powerful hormone.
Dr. Sears has spent years working with athletes and patients with diabetes and his work led him to the conclusion that food is the most powerful hormonal drug.
He developed a system which he called THE ZONE.
What is the zone?
The Zone is a program that aims at preserving the health during your whole life via healthy diet and exercise.
It is a program for hormone modulation via food which aims to ensure stable blood sugar levels, since sugar is the "fuel" for the brain.
This program is based on the biochemistry and genetics of man.
Dr. Sears argues that food is not just a source of calories, but also a drug that slows down aging; reduce excessive body fat mass and the risk of chronic diseases, and increases mental and physical abilities.
Even the first meal in the zone stabilizes blood sugar. The result is to reduce hunger and reduce food intake.
Within four days, insulin levels are normalized, and within two weeks the need for medication in patients with hypertension and diabetes is significantly reduced.
Elevated total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels are reduced “good cholesterol” (HDL) levels are increased.
Gradually, excess fat is lost, the aging process is slowed down, the skin looks better and immunity becomes stronger.
Dr. Sears easily explains some of the basic processes in the human body on which depends whether we will be healthy or sick, whether we will develop a chronic illness or not, how can we move from a state of illness to health, even when it comes to so serious diagnosis such as heart disease, cancer or Alzheimer's disease.
In fact, it may be no exaggeration to say that there is no sick state in which these recommendations will not more or less help, and sometimes the acceptance of these recommendations is actually the only choice we have left.
Many who do not know his work are ready to wave their hand as a sign of disbelief with the question: "Then why medicine does not adopt his recommendations, if that what he teaches is so effective?"
The answer to this question is simple - the pharmaceutical industry's interest. Not only that - this treatment method does not offer opportunities for big profits, you could rather say that the ZONE is a great enemy to the pharmaceutical industry.
Lidija Gajski and Dr. Dražen Gorjanski claim the same thing in their books.
According to them, and they are not alone in their claims, the pharmaceutical industry has no interest in us being healthy, but wants us to dwell within the gray zone between sickness or health for as long as we possibly can in order to ensure the widest possible client base of its products (I do not say medicines, because what they sell usually does not cure or treat anything) and to sell their products for as much profit as possible.

There is no need to be wise, but it is enough to have a little common sense, honesty, and courage to realize that far more could be done to improve people's health if we were to believe people like Dr. Gajski, Dr. Gorjanski, Dr. Srecko Sladoljev and the like.
When we add to this the teaching of the ZONE by Dr. Sears, it is easy to understand that we can achieve far greater results for our overall health, and with reduced costs.
