Is the dark Orwellian vision in which every person on the planet is under surveillance of Big Brother becoming reality?
This was confirmed by Edward Snowden, a former U.S. intelligence officer who bravely warned citizens about the misuse of digital technology in the hands of an immoral government.
Realizing the corruption of the system which he was serving, 30-year-old has decided to speak out about the spying of ordinary people and controlling their lives.
Not only are the governments, terrorists, military and intelligence structures subject to scrutiny, but ordinary people also.
Snowden can be believed, because as a CIA and NSA officer he personally spied on a number of citizens and knows the possibilities of modern technology.
We are all under control?
Snowden introduced the public from his refuge in Hong Kong with a closely guarded secret: U.S. National Security Agency since 2007 uses an unbelievable strong computer system to monitor all and everyone's telecommunications activities on the planet.
Using this system for electronic surveillance, called PRISM, it is possible to control all the users of social networks and services like Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, AOL, Skype and YouTube.
Also, PRISM allows access to all phone calls, SMS messages, MMS messages, chat messages and electronic mail.
Boundless informant
Together with the PRISM, Americans used an extremely powerful computer program called Boundless Informant.
The task of Boundless Informant is to analyze information gathered from the computer and telecommunications systems worldwide.
The capacity of this program is so great that on a monthly basis it can analyze three billion data obtained via spying.
This means that the NSA may at any time "break" in anyone's communication, if the think that someone is suspicious or that someone is in contact with some suspect.
NSA can subject collected data for computer analysis supposedly to reveal the hidden, encrypted messages exchanged between people.
"If I want to have access to your e-mails, passwords, private phone conversations and spending with credit cards, it is enough to press a couple of buttons," admitted Snowden in an interview to the British papers Guardian.
And you can be a target
Anyone can be a victim of spying. When someone has that much power, that power can be abused.
Trying to appease the American public after the scandal regarding the PRISM, head of the NSA said that the main objectives of this system were not Americans, but foreigners and Americans who were in contact with strangers.
Very comforting: so, we are targets of the U.S. spies, along with all other Europeans.
Access to the PRISM program was also given to the British intelligence services, who traditionally work with the U.S. intelligence services.
How is it possible that we have reached the point where we no longer have privacy and that we are being monitored all the time?
Obama also disappointed everyone
PRISM, a comprehensive monitoring system was started during the presidency of the Republican George W. Bush.
Such actions could have been expected from representatives of the Conservative Party, the defenders of the interests of the U.S. elite.
But Snowden is disappointed by current President Barrack Obama, who reportedly belongs to more moral Democratic Party.
He argues that he wanted to go public in 2008,, but waited until Obama's arrival in the White House, believing that he would be more honest with the public.
Unfortunately, the new president did not abolish the secret programs for tracking and spying. Quite the contrary, he even approved their further development and strengthening.
"We're are targeting only the terrorists”
Obama continues to convince the world that the Secret Service is not interested in the content of ordinary telephone calls, but is just trying to determine "who communicates with the terrorists."
Only naïve people can believe in such claims.
At any time, collected data via espionage can be misused against ordinary people who have criticized people in power.
World media, experts, lawyers, authorities from the intelligence services are competing in interpreting who is to be blamed for such a situation.
Is Snowden to be blamed for disclosing strictly guarded national secrets, or is this an example of massive violation of human rights?
No conscious citizen is in doubt: Snowden has done a great favor to humanity by his bold public statements.
Unfortunately, he will be punished for that: the U.S: authorities will pursue him around the world until they bring him to so-called justice.
