Periploca of the woods (lat Gymnema sylvestre) is a climbing plant which belongs to the family Asclepiadaceae.
It is widespread in tropical parts of Africa, Asia and Australia.
In the past Periploca of the woods was used for treating various conditions from malaria to snake bites.
Ayurvedic books describe it as a cure for glycosuria (presence of sugar in the urine) and other urinary problems.
For over 2000 years, this herb has been used to treat high sugar. It was dubbed "gur-mar," which means "destroyer of sugar."
Recently, its popularity elsewhere in the world increased as a means of reducing sugars and weight loss.
Revolutionary cure for diabetes
The first scientific evidence on the effects of Periploca of the woods on diabetes was obtained 70 years ago.
According to the research, its extract showed the ability to reduce indicators of type I and type II diabetes.
It achieves this effect by directly renewing cells in the pancreas responsible for producing insulin.
In related studies, patients with type 2 diabetes took the extract made of Periploca of the woods during 18-20 months along with conventional drugs.
They experienced the most significant decrease in blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and plasma.
After this period, many patients completely stopped or significantly reduced the usage and dose of conventional diabetes drugs.
Sugar inhibitor
Periploca of the woods contains a number of substances, and the main active component of the plant is gymnemic acid, which is found in leaves and roots.
It is an inhibitor of sweetness, which means that chewing the leaves reduces the sweet taste in the mouth.
However, it is not just about changing the taste. Gymnemic acid reduces the absorption of sugar in the digestive tract, normalizes blood sugar and suppresses the appetite.
With proper nutrition and regular exercise, Periploca of the woods can help you lose weight.
When taken with a meal rich in carbohydrates or sugar it neutralizes excess sugar found in the body and prevents it from turning into fat.
It also helps build muscle mass and removing fat from the upper abdomen, waist and hips.
During longer taking its effect becomes stronger.
This is an ideal supplement for those who are trying to lose weight and get hard results.
