Iridology - the study of the iris of the eye

oko A famous saying is that the eyes are the mirror of the soul.

Many actually believe that our eyes are not associated only with our soul, but also with our health.

Iridology (from the Greek iris - colored circle, and logia - science) translates as the science of the iris of the eye.

This alternative method deals with the diagnosis based on the study of the iris - part of the eye, which gives it its characteristic color: blue, brown or green.

Iridology considers that the eyes reflect any changes in our health.

On the basis of color, lines and blemishes in the iris of the eye, an iridologist can diagnose the patient's condition.

The iris is divided into 12 segments and seven concentric circles centered on the pupil of the eye.

It is believed that the iris of the right eye reflects the health of the right side of the body, while the iris of the left eye reflects the health of the left side of the body.

Paired organs may be found in both irises, with one exception: the heart appears in both irises.

When making a diagnosis, iridologists use special cards that are divided into 100 segments.

These circuits are visible only when there is an abnormality in the organs to which they relate, starting from number one (circle closest to the pupil) to the number seven. These circuits are related to the heart, intestines, kidneys, lungs, brain, and skin.

Anomalies in some cases look like spots, and sometimes as short rods or various irregular shapes. An illness can also be indicated by changes in the color of the iris in a certain place.

Other signs are the so-called cardiac rings, which indicate a heart disease itself or in comorbidity with other disorders.

The sign that causes the first alarm is one or more red dots on a light background, which has a geometric shape (triangle, square, rhombus, etc.) - it is a sign of a tumor. The sign usually occurs several months before the disease.

Most interestingly, iridology does not only show the current state of the organism. Our eye is like a health card, which an experienced iridologist can use to learn all diseases and traumas you have experienced, because they leave a trace in our body and in our eye. And not only that - iridology gives a glimpse into the future.

Iridologist can predict a disease which will appear in the body several months or even several years later if we fail to do something to prevent it.

A brief history

Iridology has been known since ancient Greece, and was applied in the past and is still applied today in traditional Chinese medicine.

The first accurate description of the method, without mentioning the name of iridology, was found in a book Chiromatica Medica by Philipus Meyeus.

Dr. Ignatz von Peczely, a Hungarian physician, was the first who used the name of iridology.

As a child, while watching the eyes of a hawk, who had a mark on its iris caused by a broken claw, von Peczely got the inspiration to study the science of the iris, dedicating to it the rest of his life.

At medical school in Vienna, he studied the iris of patients before and after surgery. He made numerous autopsies, systematically studying and connecting his finding, before he published his book "Discoveries in the Realms of Nature and Art of Healing" and an iridology map in 1880.

In Germany, this method was developed by Pastor Felke in a book Naturheilkunde in early 1900, who used iridology to treat specific diseases. He founded the Institute in Heimshiem as the leading German center.

Dr. Bernard Jensen, an American chiropractor, has expanded iridology to the U.S. in 1950.

He applied it along with his own mode of treatment, which included a proper diet. He practiced it in collaboration with P. Johannes Thiel, Edward Lane and J. Haskell Kritzer .He organized iridology courses and published a medical magazine.

Diagnostic Precision

According to Bernard Jensen, who dedicated over 50 years to the study of the iris of the eye, iridology provides a holistic approach, which considers the body as a whole, and shows its strength and health.

Basically, iridology can determine whether there are acute, chronic or degenerative processes in the body. Iridology can also show whether toxins and heavy metals are present in the body.

Diagnostics with the help of iridology is really reliable and accurate, provided that it is performed by a qualified person. It is believed that the accuracy of such diagnosis ranges between 80% and 95%.

Particular success has been achieved in the field of early diagnosis of the tumor, where cancer can be diagnosed for months before it appears in the body (research by Dr. Jamil Aliyev, Center of Oncology, Azerbaijan).

There are some diseases and conditions that iridology cannot diagnosed, for example:

  • previous surgeries (if they were performed under full sedation)
  • pregnancy (since it is a normal state of the organism)
  • the cause of the accident (although it will show damage to organs or bones)

Diagnostic Procedure

Commonly used are a small lamp and a magnifying glass, through which the iridologist observes the eye of the patient to notice changes in its structure or color. Observation of the eye usually lasts only a few seconds.

With the advancement of technology, new tools have been developed to help the work of iridologists. Special cameras allow accurate recording of the eye, while a computer software assists in the diagnosis.

We must note that iridology requires widespread medical experience and knowledge of anatomy. Therefore we do not recommend you to try to perform your own diagnosis using iridologic maps. Instead, contact an experienced iridologist.

Criticism by conventional medicine

Many doctors of conventional medicine, who do not accept holistic healing methods, fiercely criticized iridology, calling its practitioners "cheats" and "quacks".

Many feel that their practice is not scientifically confirmed nor legal.

However, this is not true, because scientific research of the iris really exist, and many are still ongoing.

Many scientists gave a contribution to the study of the iris, including the Germans Josef Deck, Theodor Kriege, Josef Angerer, Dr. H. W. Schimmeland, Dr. Rudolf Schnabe etc. Many studies have been performed and millions of patients participated.

International researchs of the iris have been conducted in Russia, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, America and Europe, with the use of surgery, autopsy, X-rays, scans and chemical analysis.

Iridology is popular in Europe, Russia and America. In China, iridology has been used for thousands of years for an accurate diagnosis and prevention of disease.
